Fan poll: New Yankee Stadium?
As a Yankee fan, I most agree with the following statement . . .
New stadium would be awesome, regardless of where
It should be built on same hallowed ground
Across the street is acceptable for new stadium
Yankee Stadium should not be altered at all

TALKBACK: Yankees fan forum
Talk about the Yankees as they chase the AL East pennant.
I take back all of the good things about Jeter. Time to get rid of him, along with that good-for-nothing Matsui, as well as Wang and Gordon. If we do that, we have a wild card chance next year.

The Yankees unveiled their much-anticipated plans for a new stadium yesterday -- a spectacular arena that strives to recapture the ambience of the original historic ballpark, but that also features the kind of amenities that can support the high cost of baseball today. (Jun 16, 2005)

Yanks do right thing and fans win
Forget about the fact that we knew this new Yankees stadium was coming for a year. That the long-overdue news conference began 15 minutes late yesterday, despite being on live television. That they gave every politician in the state five minutes on the podium. (Jun 16, 2005)

Jeter: 'It will be the same atmosphere'
History is not limited to landmarks. So say the few Yankees who may still be in pinstripes when the team's new home is slated to open in 2009. (Jun 16, 2005)

Stadium neighbors have mixed reactions
Many neighbors of Yankee Stadium never believed George Steinbrenner when he threatened, at various times in the past 11 years, to move his team away from the Bronx. (Jun 16, 2005)

Fans speak out on new Stadium
"After all the news about the West Side stadium and the Queens stadium, I just want to know where all the money is coming from. I go to 10 games a year. It's one of the oldest stadiums, up there with Wrigley and Fenway, and it's due for an upgrade." (Erik Gulley, 34, of Elizabeth, N.J.) (Jun 16, 2005)

Not exactly a home run
If the pope announced plans for a new St. Peter's, or if President George W. Bush relocated the Lincoln Memorial across the Potomac, the tremors among believers could hardly be more powerful. The Yankees' announcement yesterday that they plan to abandon their home of 82 years for a younger version suggests that sacredness has become disposable. (Jun 16, 2005)

Secrets out: Boss may pass torch to Swindal
George Steinbrenner didn't say much yesterday, during the Yankees' news conference to announce their new stadium. But one brief comment did raise some eyebrows, and perhaps gave a glimpse of the Steinbrenner family's long-range plans for the team. (Jun 16, 2005)

Yankee Stadium deal caps off big week for mayor
The solemn businessman in pinstripes wedged himself against a door on a No. 4 train at 3:38 p.m. Wednesday, staring at a looseleaf binder on the way to Yankee Stadium. (Jun 16, 2005)
