Name Change Service

You, like many others, may have first started the game with a server-generated name that, while acceptable, may not fully reflect the personality and appearance of your character’s growth in stature and reputation. Or, you may have thought of a much cooler name during your travels through Norrath. Now, as part of Sony Online Entertainment’s continuing commitment to provide EverQuest players with the finest gaming experience on the web, SOE is pleased to announce a new, reasonably priced, character name change service. This service will allow you to request a name change for your character's first name.

You simply fill out SOE's form (which you use to request, for each character, a rename of your character's name to an unused name on your server that complies with all of the terms and conditions of SOE’s character naming policy) and SOE will charge you the applicable fee. SOE may discontinue this service, without notice, at any time.

Legends Premium Server character renames are free and may be requested to be changed after characters have been on the Stormhammer server for 30 days. All name changes may only be done once in a 6 month period. All other servers are eligible for this paid service.

Rules and Restrictions

You may use this service to change the name of your character(s).

SOE reserves the right to reject any request, in full or in part, and any requested name -- for any reason or no reason -- in its sole discretion. SOE may or may not, in its discretion, provide a "new name" service (which would enable your long lost friends to match your old name to your new name so they can keep in touch). All terms and conditions of the EverQuest User Agreement and Software License (EUASL), the Station Terms of Service and the Rules of Conduct found on www.everquest.com continue to apply to any and all accounts with renamed characters. You will not be allowed to rename any character(s) on an account that is not yours and that was not originally registered by you.

First names only are eligible for this service.

Characters eligible for rename must be level 6 or higher.

You may rename a character only once every six months.

Even if the new name that you choose is acceptable upon completion of the new name request form, it is possible for any reason that the request will not be approved during processing. You will be notified by email if this happens and may be given the opportunity to choose another new name.

You may rename up to eight characters per request. You may submit as many requests as you like.

If you wish to rename characters on different accounts, you will need to submit a separate request for each account.

Charges will be made directly to your credit card on file. If the billing or other account registration information that SOE has on file is different or inconsistent in any manner from that which you provide on the request form, your request will not be processed, you will be notified via email and we will investigate the reason for the inconsistent or different information. If you have only paid for your account with a Game Card or you wish to use a credit card different than the credit card you use for your EverQuest subscription, you will need to fill out the alternative credit card fields.

You will not be charged until your request has been approved and processed. No refunds will be permitted once your request is approved and processed. If you change your mind about renaming your character(s) after they have already been renamed, you will need to fill out an additional request form to rename the character(s) and you will again be charged the applicable fee. However, your original character(s) name may not be available.

All approved requests will be processed in due course.

Renaming of your character(s) will not be processed while you have an existing corpse in the world.

Fee Schedule

Up to 8 characters (all of which must be in a single account) per request - $49.95

In addition to the fees described above, if you are a resident of an European Union country, you will also be charged a VAT tax equal to 17.5% of the applicable fee.

Character Naming Policy

Character names in EverQuest should reflect the genre of the game. Original, high-fantasy names are desired. These guidelines apply both to first names and to surnames, and also to the combination of first name and surname.

The following types of names are inappropriate:.

  1. Vile, profane, rude, or racist names including common swear words, anatomical references, racial slurs, and homonyms of these words.
  2. Combinations of words that produce an offensive result (e.g. Hugeaz, Tug Mcgroin).
  3. Names of religious, occult, or significant historic origin (e.g. Jesus, Allah, Satan, Stalin, Angel, Devil, Demon).
  4. Trademarked names of products, services, or concepts (e.g. , Marlboro, Sony, Band-Aid).
  5. Non-fantasy oriented names from popular media. These names can be either fictional (e.g. Rambo, Darthvader) or non-fictional (e.g. Garth Brooks, Pierce Brosnan, Ronald Reagan, Michael Jordan).
  6. Common words and phrases that would not be found in the place and time setting of the game (e.g. Switchblade, Phaser, Toaster, Sloegin, Anyone). This includes references to drug substances or drug related paraphernalia. (e.g. Ecstacy, Cannibis)
  7. Proper names from EverQuest (e.g. Rathe, Karana). This also includes the first or last name of any significant EverQuest NPC (e.g. Dorn, Trumpy, Karn).
  8. Names chosen with the intent or possessed with the effect of harming the reputation of or used to impersonate a Customer or representative of Sony Online Entertainment.
  9. Names containing titles within them, such as, but not limited to: The, Lord, Lady, Master, King, Knight, Sir, Father (e.g. Sirtallon, Lordeagle, Mothermaggy, Darksister).
  10. Fantasy-oriented names that are easily recognized from popular existing media (e.g. Merlin, Gandalf, Belgarath, Drizzt, Tanis).
  11. Names where the combination of the first and last name violate a previous rule.

For all of the above, misspellings and alternative spellings of the word or words are also unacceptable.

If a name is found to be in violation of any of the above polices, a member of the Customer Service Team will then use the following process:

  • For category 1 or 2 offenses, a member of the Customer Service Team will change the name of the character as soon as it is discovered. You may be notified of this name change either in-game or by email. Depending on the nature of the offensive name, the account may also be subject to disciplinary action including suspension or banning. A GM will contact you to inform you if disciplinary action is taken.
  • For categories 3 through 11, the member of the Customer Service Team will contact you either in game or via email to notify you of the character's name change. After your name is changed, any corpses currently in the world will no longer be accessible. Please inform a Customer Service Team member if you have a current corpse prior to the name change.

If you wish to proceed in renaming your characters, simply fill out the following request form.
