* Boutique Size Wedding Shows Offer Intimacy & Exclusivity
Photography by Kim Christie

0Although sometimes the more things change the more the seem to remain the same it seems that in the world of wedding shows it may be that the more they change the better they get.

Responding to the burn-out and frustration expressed by many engaged couples after spending hours trudging around a cavernous hall at yet-another large format wedding show, there seems to be a growing interest in smaller, more intimate shows from both brides and vendors.

Interestingly some of the better boutique-size shows are being organized by wedding industry leaders hoping to combine their own vision of what makes a great event with some of the best local wedding professionals.

Long recognized as one of Vancouver's most influential designers, Manuel Mendoza introduced an intimate three-hour show in the confines of the studio space he shares with Madalena Corsi of Jeweliette - Vancouver's own Fashion accessory queen - at 692 Seymour St. in downtown Vancouver. Billed as Tiaras & Tuxes, the show was a gala, three-hour afternoon show with all the intimacy and expertise you would expect from a group of this calibre.

MC'd by Real Weddings Fashion & Style Editor Catherine Dunwoody the show attracted just under 75 attendees- not bad when you consider it was one of the nicest Sundays yet in April with temperatures at the beach soaring to a balmy 27 celcius.

The show delivered a unique, intimate setting. Couples and vendors mingled, socialized and talked plans. The function included an informal fashion show featuring Mendoza's men's and ladies' custom bridal designs, live music, a silent bridal auction, champagne & hors d'oeuvres. Of the $800 raised in the silent auction, $400 was donated to one of our favourite charities - BC Children's Hospital Foundation. The other $400 went to a lucky bride and a lucky groom via a bouquet and garter toss.

The next Tiaras & Tuxes will be hosted by The Chapel At Stanley Park on Sunday February 12, 2006. For tickets and information call 604 688-2067. --ma
