Action: During 20/28 May 1941 in Crete, Greece, Sergeant Hulme displayed various acts of bravery, perseverance and excellent leadership. He managed to beat off an enemy attack near Maleme, he cleared a school building in Galatos of enemy troops with the use of fragmentation grenades, put five enemy snipers out of action near Suda Bay and put a mortar position and three enemy snipers out of action near Styles.
Details: Alfred Hulme is buried at the Dudley Cemetery, Puke, Auckland, New Zealand.
Sergeant Hulme’s Victoria Cross is publicly displayed at the QEII Army Memorial Museum, Waioruru, New Zealand.
