Kevin Smith Lashes Back At Film Magazine

More Photos of Kevin Smith Indie director Kevin Smith is furious at being included in Premiere's list of 12 stars and directors who are losing their edge. Actors Winona Ryder and Mike Myers were also included in the list. Smith says, "If making a flick about religion that's peppered with dick and f*** jokes which results in death threats means I'm losing my edge, I'd like to know what's considered edgy." He adds, "I'm not losing half the edge that Premiere's losing in circulation. They're on the edge - the edge of the periodicals grave."

Redford Rules Out Getting Married Again

More Photos of Robert Redford Veteran actor Robert Redford gets dozens of marriage proposals a week - but he's vowed never to wed again. The 63-year-old star was married for 27 years to Lola Van Wagenen, and has had failed romances with Brazilian actress Sonia Braga and costume designer Kate O'Rear - which has put him off serious relationships for good. Although Redford is currently in a "happy relationship" with German artist Sibillye Szaggars, the pair will continue to live apart. He explains, "We met through a mutual interest in art after I saw some of her work in a gallery. "Then by pure coincidence I discovered she lived near me in Utah. So I gave her a call and we liked each other. "My first marriage lasted for over 25 years which is a long time and produced a wonderful family but I can't see any point in ever getting married again. That chapter of my life is over and now we move on. But I'm still having a good time."

Janssen Dumps "Boring" Affleck

More Photos of Famke Janssen Famke Janssen has dumped Ben Affleck - and immediately hooked up with a "mystery man". According to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper the Ben was dropped by the gorgeous actress because he wasn't interesting enough. Affleck was quickly replaced by an unidentified man who joined Janssen in Canada where she's filming the new Michael Douglas film Don't Say a Word (2001). Janssen admits, "I got bored with Ben."

Izzard: I Had A Stalker

Wacky comedic actor Eddie Izzard has been suffering at the hands of a talkative stalker. Eddie claims the obsessed fan kept turning up to ask him where he was going that night and whether she could come with him. He says she followed him for about a month during his stand-up tour in America last year. He reveals, "She got hold of my phone number, but when she called me I denied it was me and gave her my tour manager's number. He spent hours talking on the phone with her."

Rowan Atkinson To Play Scooby Doo Baddie

British comedian Rowan Atkinson is in negotiations to play the villain in Scooby-Doo (2001). Atkinson is seen as the perfect character to portray the 'bad guy' Mondavarious in the much-anticipated live-action film. Sexy TV star Sarah Michelle Gellar heads the cast as Daphne, alongside real-life boyfriend Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred.

Senator Slams Traffic - The Film He Appeared In

Senator Orrin G. Hatch has slammed the hit movie Traffic (2000) - despite the fact that he has a cameo role in the film. The film was defended by Hatch before its release despite its nudity, sex, drug use and profane language. Yet when Hatch saw the finished film he was horrified, "I was shocked and dismayed at the gratuitous amount of violence and profanity in Traffic."

Tobey's Lonely Childhood Will Help Him In Spider-Man Role

Tobey Maguire is the perfect choice for the big-screen role of Spider-Man (2002) because he was such a loner when growing up. The handsome actor plays Peter Parker the nerd-like student who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and transformed into Spider-Man. And Maguire says he can relate to the character because as a high-school kid he moved from town to town. He says, "I felt like I was an outsider. I think what happened to me made me develop this street sense of watching people and working out what made them tick, wondering whether I could trust them or not. I went to a lot of schools along the coast in California, made few friends and stayed with aunts, uncles and grandparents while my folks tried to make ends meet. It was tough. We had no money." Maguire has plenty of money now though - he's being paid $4.5 million to portray the Spidey in the $75 million film.

Spielberg Becomes Honorary Knight

Movie great Steven Spielberg made an honorary knight of the British Empire, joining an elite list of Americans. Spielberg received the award at the British Embassy Monday. Also present were his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, wife of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and actress Holly Hunter. The honorary title is for those born outside the United Kingdom who make outstanding contributions to society. With trademark humility, Spielberg asked, "Why me?" after Sir Christopher Meyer, the British ambassador to America, presented the award at the front of a candlelit ballroom. After hanging a cross-shaped medallion around Spielberg's neck, Meyer said, "Mr. Spielberg's career has had a global impact." He added, "But the impact in the United Kingdom stands out. His films helped significantly in the doubling of cinema admission in the UK since the early 1980s." Spielberg, who will not be addressed as "Sir", joins the likes of former American Presidents George Bush and Ronald Reagan, comedian Bob Hope and conductor Andre Previn as an honorary knight.

Ewan's Survival Trip Of A Lifetime

Movie heart-throb Ewan McGregor is recovering from an exhausting expedition - where he survived on insects, plants and wild animals. He joined outdoors expert Ray Mears for a BBC special, "Trips That Money Can't Buy", to be shown later this year. The pair lived alone, apart from a small film crew, in tough, mountainous terrain in Central America which was hot and humid by day and bitterly cold at night. Ewan learned how to wield a huge machete, how to live off the land and how to avoid disease and dangerous creatures. Monday night the star's mother Carol said the 10-day trip was a great achievement. She said, "I'm relieved he's back safe and sound. He found the trip intense, different, exciting and adventurous."

Zeta-Jones To Miss Out On Part Because Of Good Looks

Catherine Zeta-Jones will miss out on a new movie role - because she's too secure in her own good looks. Jones had been heavily tipped to portray Maria Callas, in a bio-pic of the sexy Greek singer's life - but now Hollywood sources say Zeta-Jones is unsuitable because Callas was uncomfortable about her appearance, unlike Catherine. Showbiz columnist Liz Smith says, "Miss Zeta-Jones is not at all a beauty in the Callas mold. The luscious young star playing Callas, in a state of insecurity over her looks, would suspend disbelief to the max!"
