Arabs and Muslims Must Choose between Western Civilzation and Middle Ages
The attacks of September 11, 2001 have focused world attention on the Muslim world, and have aroused keen debates in Arab intellectual circles about the religious, social, economic, political, and cultural circumstances that have given rise to the phenomenon of suicide attacks in the name of Islam. Muslim shapers of public opinion have argued that Islamist terrorism will force the Muslim countries to undergo a basic change and will oblige the Arab regimes to deal with issues that were previously swept aside, such as extremist religious education, democracy, and human rights.
Political Islam causes Religious absolutism and then Terrorism
If one has to look for one basic, elementary cause of terrorism engulfing civilization today; it is religious absolutism. Religious absolutism results from a belief that a particular faith represents the absolute truth and therefore must be accepted by everyone else without question. Such an absolutist ideology encourages bigotry of the highest order and promotes extreme hatred of other faiths.
European Muslims and the Cult of Jihadism
Since Sept. 11, 2001 European Muslims have been seen as a potential base for a radical, anti-Western ideology founded on a crude misinterpretation of Islam that delights in killing innocents under the banner of "Jihad." The attack in London on July 7 was just one episode in the chain of violence perpetrated by this death cult.
Fighting Terrorism: Recommendations by Arab Reformists
The question of how to fight Islamic terrorism preoccupies many Arab reformists who are working to denounce Islamist thought, to encourage independent and critical thinking, and to establish values of democracy and human rights in the Muslim world. For example, in February 2005, a group of reformists submitted to the U.N. a request that it establish an international court to judge Muslim clerics who incite to violence and bloodshed. The request was examined by the U.N. legal counsel and distributed to the U.N. Security Council.(
Killing With One’s Mind: Iago & The War On Terror
The great detective Hercule Poirot once declared that Shakespeare’s Iago was the greatest of all murderers. Whilst the villain of Othello may not spring to most people’s minds in this context, Poirot’s logic is certainly worth dwelling upon. Any fool can kill with his body – whether by pulling a trigger or thrusting with a knife. Iago, however, had perfected the art of killing with his mind. When he wished to destroy people he did not resort to crude personal violence, as a normal murderer would. Instead he manipulated others, and used them as his weapons. He poisoned their thinking, and nudged them until they would carry out his murders for him – all the while thinking it was in their own best interests, and not realising that Iago was the only one benefiting from their actions.
Democratization and Islamic Reformation
Saad E. Ibrahim discusses the roots of Islamic militants' violence, and whether something can be done about it. He draws on his own prison experience in dialoguing with Islamic militants, and convincing many of them to give up violence, inside and outside prison.

Muslims against terrorism and extremism

Liberty, democracy, freedom The Free Muslims Coalition is a nonprofit organization made up of American Muslims and American Arabs of all backgrounds who feel that religious violence and terrorism have not been fully rejected by the Muslim community in the post 9-11 era.

Free Muslims was created to eliminate broad base support for Islamic extremism and terrorism and to strengthen secular democratic institutions in the Middle East and the Muslim World by supporting Islamic reformation efforts.

Free Muslims promotes a modern secular interpretation of Islam which is peace-loving, democracy-loving and compatible with other faiths and beliefs. Free Muslims' efforts are unique; it is the only mainstream American-Muslim organization willing to attack extremism and terrorism unambiguously. Unfortunately most other Muslim leaders and organizations believe that when it comes to terrorism, the end justifies the means.

Other Americans have spoken up against terrorism, but never before has this message come with such clarity from Muslims or Arabs. Muslims are the only ones who can solve the problem of terror in Islam, and sadly until the founding of this Coalition, they were the only group who had not definitively spoken up against the use of terror.

Please join Free Muslims. We welcome all, whether Muslim, Christian or Jewish.

Taking our religion back one Muslim at a time

We believe in the re-interpretation of Islam for the 21st century where terrorism is not justified under any circumstances.

We believe in the separation of religion and state.

We believe that democracy is the best form of government.

We believe in the promotion of secularism in all forms of political activity.

We believe that equality for women is an inalienable right.

We believe that religion is a personal relationship between the individual and his or her God and is not to be forced on anyone.
