Ex-Governor Chides Obasanjo, N/Assembly
From Abel Orih in Yola

Following the numerous crises which bedevilled the nation last year, the Federal Government has been warned against possible outbreak of another military coup d'etat.

The Governor of Adamawa State in the aborted Third Republic, Alhaji Saleh Michika, observed that unless the present political class, especially the elected officials change from their present behaviour, aggressive soldier could strike.

Speaking in at interview with newsmen in his Yola residence, Alhaji Saleh Michika, disclosed that there was no guarantee against any group simply by disengaging prospective military officers feared to be likely future rebels.

He said "the National Assembly and the executive had taken Nigerians for granted since they assumed position of authority".

"The Electoral Act saga alone is enough reason for the military to intervene, and that will amount to putting Nigeria and Nigerians once more into a pathetic situation," he said.

Michika pointed out that President Olusegun Obasanjo has committed and survived numerous impeachable offences simply because the National Assembly refused to act for what he described as selfish reasons.

"This non-challant attitude of the legislators towards their responsibilities is responsible for the dictatorial tendencies of the president in administering this country", he remarked.

Describing the National Assembly members as corrupt officials for whom he had no respect for, Michika said "I wish I were a senator and people would have seen me confronting Mr. President and all those committing blunders and thereby drawing the nation backward".

He said all the present crop of National Assembly members should be given the red card against future elections, saying they were a disgrace to the electorate, and a disappointment to the nation".

He expressed disappointment over what he described as irrelevant issues which he said the elected officials were engrossed in instead of pursuing their legitimate assignments.
