How has it been so far working for MTV?
A lot of fun! It's an experience of a lifetime.
What's a typical working day like for you?
There's no typical working day. I guess there's a typical
working day for MTV, but for me there's not one because every
day I do something different. If it's not MTV, then I have
another job to do or something else to do.
How much longer do you see yourself doing this?
As long as people like me, yeah, I'll do it for a long time.
But if people don't like me, there's no reason for me to continue.
If the opportunity with MTV had not come along, what do you
think would you be doing with your time now? Still pursuing,
perhaps, your showbiz career here in the Philippines?
Yeah, 'cause I came into MTV with... I had nothing to lose.
I was establishing myself already as somebody here, and MTV
just helped me -- a lot, actually! Now, my name is associated
with MTV... forever! Yeah, I would probable be a full-time
actor (chuckles), host, something....
Does your lack of fluency in Filipino make your work difficult
for you, especially when interviewing local artists?
Actually, I can do it now. It's just sometimes my grammar
is wrong. It's not proper, but I have no problems anymore
talking to the local artists because, basically, a lot of
them speak English and if not, my [Filipino] is good enough
for me to get by.
I mean, I understand everything they say, but I have to choose
exactly how I want to ask a question because sometimes there
are things I want to ask that I'm not quite sure of, so....
But it doesn't really slow me down.
So was it this love for music that made you decide to
join the MTV hunt?
Yeah, I thought it would be a really cool job -- you just
talk about music and get to do these things, meet these people.
So, yeah, it was all of those sweet little incentives that
made me join the search.
Did you always have a keen interest in music?
Yeah, I have always loved music, but I never ever thought
that I would have actually decided to work for a music channel.
Do you sing or play any instrument maybe?
Actually, right now, I'm working on my album.
With which record label?
Well, I'm doing it all by myself first and composing most
of the beats. I have a little studio at my house, where I'm
slowly trying to get my music done, but it's difficult sometimes
because I don't have much time and I'm trying to do everything
by myself.
I'm not asking for any help, and I've come to that point
where I think I have to ask for some help from my friends
in the business because I'm not really...like I don't know
how to play the keyboards. I have a really good ear, though,
and that's what matters.
