Jagdpanther (Sd.Kfz.173), alternatively known as Panzerjaeger Panther, utilized the chassis of Pz.Kpfw.Panther Ausf.G, and the hull glacis and sides were extended upwards to form a fighting compartment. Early production vehicles had a welded collar around the Pak 43, a monobloc main gun barrel, and two periscopes for the driver in the hull front plate. Later vehicles came equipped with a stronger bolted collar, two-piece Pak 43 barrels, and one driver's periscope. A hatch was provided in the rear wall of the superstructure for loading ammunition and performing maintenance on the gun. Later production vehicles were fitted with a strengthened ZF AK 7-400 transmission. Modifications made to Pz.Kpfw.Panther Ausf.G were grafted onto Jagdpanther, e.g., the naehverteidigunswaffe close-in defense weapon and flash-suppressing exhaust pipes.
