Welcome to the First Ever Jean Shepherd Festival!

This is a day to celebrate all things 'A Christmas Story' and everything Jean Shepherd! It is the first ever Festival of it's kind, held for Hammond's Most Famous Resident!

He's most famous as the creator and narrator of the classic holiday movie 'A Christmas Story'. His childhood in Hammond, Indiana is the subject of several books, six films, numerous magazine articles, and was regular fodder on his longtime radio show in New York City.

For one day only, we will pull out all the stops to bring the Days of 'A Christmas Story' back to life! Meet some of your favorite characters from the movie-- Flick, Schwartz, Randy and Skut Farkus will all be live and in person! See Jean Shepherd movies that have never been on the big screen before! Tell Santa what you want, and join in on a 1000 piece kazoo orchestra!

This is a day to remember! Grab yourself a sausage sandwich or enjoy some popcorn. Do you look like Ralphie or Jean Shepherd? Let the audience decide! Wins lots of prizes!

Have a bounce in the moonwalk, and get yourself the leg lamp you have always dreamed of!

Take pride in the immortalization of Hammond, Indiana, as we take our rightful place in Hollywood history! We are the Real Town from 'A Christmas Story', and the home of Jean Shepherd and it is time we let the world know!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have a dream! I have a dream that Jean Shepherd will become the household name he deserves to be. I dream of an annual holiday event with a parade, a festival, a museum and a bronze statue (Yes, I can already picture it-- Jean standing, smiling away, right on the lot where Goldblatt's once stood, balancing a leg lamp on his knee, his foot propped up on a head of cabbage. Leaning back against the pole, and behind him, Flick's tongue stuck firmly to the other side).

Jack London has a museum, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway each have 2, and Frank Baum author of 'The Wizard Of Oz' has his own park in Chicago!

Nothing against John Dillinger or our High School Robotics Team, but don't you agree that our "Welcome to Hammond" signs should be boasting too that Hammond is the "REAL Town from 'A Christmas Story'"? "The Home of Jean Shepherd!" It is an outrage that they don't already! Now is the time, we need to update the tour books, and let the world know that Hammond Indiana is a destination!

Sincerely,
Amy Stocky, Founder of The Jean Shepherd Festival
