Space Shuttle Discovery, DayRollout to Launch Pad, 04/06/05 (see also Space Shuttle Discovery, Night)
On April 6, 2005, at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Space Shuttle Discovery was rolled out of the Vehicle Assembly Building with launch pad 39-B (seen here in the distant left) as its goal. The Crawler transporter measures 131 x 113 feet and weighs in at 5.5 million pounds; the shuttle with its load adds another 12 million pounds. The journey to the launch pad is slow and steady; an ideal setting for the "normal" Gigapxl™ camera. Closeups below show the launch pad, the shuttle, and closer looks at the nose of the shuttle and the group of people on right side of the Crawler.
