Region Northern Sudan, Jebel Gule, San and Roro hills north of the Gaam, west of Er Roseires.

Classification Nilo-Saharan, Komuz, Koman.
Comments The people now speak Arabic. The name 'Funj' is a cover term used by all the peoples of the southern Blue Nile area, and some Arabs from that area to identify their languages to outsiders. It also refers to the empire of the Funj that existed 500 years ago in that area. Muslim, traditional religion. Extinct.
