Golden Era for Thoroughbred Owners

Tuesday, 3rd of January 2006

The beginning of the New Year also heralded the start of a new era for thoroughbred owners, as the Owner’s Gold Card became active at today’s Bairnsdale, Burrumbeet, Hanging Rock, Mornington, Murtoa and Terang race meetings.

The Owners’ Gold Card initiative, delivered by racing clubs throughout Victoria, recognises the importance of owners to the industry by providing them with a designated owners’ area at race meetings and a host of additional benefits.

The new benefits to owners include minimum standards for admission, members and mounting yard ticketing, complimentary race books and complimentary refreshments at dedicated facilities when an owner’s horse is racing and complimentary admission to over 300 race meetings when their horse is not racing.

The Owner’s Gold Card also provides value added services such as an owners service centre, owners standard form contracts, monthly email newsletter, dispute resolution service, complimentary Friends membership at the Australian Racing Museum and special offers from Victorian Race clubs.

Racing Victoria Limited’s (RVL) Director Racing Development Bernard Saundry was delighted with the Owners’ Gold Card’s first day of operation and said the initial feedback from owners has been extremely positive.

“In November 2005, invitations were sent to all owners that had raced a horse in Victoria over the previous12 months. To date, 11,000 owners have applied for their Owners’ Gold Card and this number is increasing at a rate of 800 per week. Many of owners these enjoyed the benefits on offer at today’s meetings,” Saundry said.

“At today’s meetings, Owners’ Liaison Staff at each club recognised owners and guided them to take full advantage of the benefits available, as well as signed up owners yet to apply for their Gold Card. These staff will be on track for all Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday meetings – we have a team of 20 staff that will be allocated across various country regions to assist owners at country race tracks,” Saundry said.

Active thoroughbred owners who are yet to obtain cards or have not received an invitation can apply for their benefits by calling Racing Victoria’s Owners’ Services on 1300 139 412 or by visiting Owners’ Liaison Staff on track.
