Manager's Message

Spring is just around the corner an soon the sweet smell of flowers will lay heavy in the air. Small buds pop open forming a blanket of fresh blooms that cover the walls of the ravines. Now is the time when everyone is coming out of winter's hibernation. This is a time when the world seems fresh and new. Come spend this special time at a special place, Ravine Gardens State Park.

Are you planning a wedding this spring? On January 28th the park will feature the Wedding Expo. This is your wedding one stop shop. You will be able to meet wedding planners, photographers and much more. Pick out your dream dress at the bridal fashion show.

Did you resolve to live a healthier lifestyle this year? Why not start at Ravine Gardens State Park. Ravine Gardens State Park will join Putnam County on February 9, 2006 for Step Up Florida. Come join us in this celebration of health. Participants will be able to register at the park then proceed with their walk/run around a 1.8 mile scenic loop around the ravine.

Help the park staff keep our park beautiful by joining us on February 11th for the Air Potato Rodeo. This is a fun way to get the community together for some resource management fun. Refreshments and prizes will be after potato picking. All ages welcome.

Come celebrate an array of beauty during the second weekend in March 11th & 12th. Ravine Gardens continues the tradition of celebrating the peak blooming season. Join us for Azalea Days. Enjoy a weekend full of music, food and various plant and craft vendors. Take a ranger lead tour through the ravines history as you ride a wagon around the ravine loop surrounded by thousands of azaleas.

Welcome to Ravine Gardens State Park

A ravine was created over thousands of years by water flowing from the sandy ridges on the shore of the St. Johns River. In 1933, this ravine was transformed into a dramatic garden by the federal Works Progress Administration. Much of the original landscaping still exists as formal gardens and an extensive trail system. A 1.8-mile paved road winds around the ravine, offering motorists and bicyclists a view of the gardens. The Ravine Loop is closed to vehicle traffic one hour before sunset, but remains open for pedestrians, bicycles, and wheelchairs. The garden's peak flowering period is azalea season, late January to April. Numerous picnic sites, equipped with tables and grills, are available to visitors. The Roy E. Campbell Civic Center complex features a large covered pavilion, auditorium, and meeting rooms that are available for rent. Located in Palatka at 1600 Twigg Street.
