On Statement by Senator Bill Frist (R-TN): “The American People Don’t Want You Involved in These Decisions.”

“Sen. Bill Frist basically admitted on a national television show yesterday that political intervention in my family’s personal matters was a mistake.

“Most Americans know that actions speak louder than words. And while I am gratified that Senator Frist has finally spoken-up to say that politicians should not cash-in on family tragedies, I think most Americans will judge the Senator based on what he did instead of what he said. When he had the opportunity to stand for limited government, personal privacy and respect for the law, he instead joined others in his party to demand hasty and reckless government action. (more)

WASHINGTON - Each December, the Family Research Council grades Congress on how it voted during the year on important conservative social issues, such as gay marriage and abortion. But this year, the group didn't even bother to score the Senate. Blame Terri Schiavo. After the public backlash that followed congressional intervention in Schiavo's end-of-life case in March, conservative social victories were just too few to count. (more)
