The Choir stalls and Rood screen

Made around 1509, they are the glory of the Chapel, and the most complete medieval set in Scotland. Their elaborate carving appears to be by a local team, led by John Fendour who also worked at St Nicholas and St Machar's Cathedral. The same men made the carved ceiling. Both the stalls and ceiling are based on Netherlandish designs adapted by Scottish craftsmen. They display a virtual pattern book of individual tracery designs.
