Singles
Eminem and
Chris Brown trade places this week, with Em
taking pole position. We see three debuts to the top 10
also with Nickelback firing onto the chart at #3,
Bob Sinclar spreading some love at #7 and Rihanna
rounding them off at #9. The Pussy Cat Dolls and
Santana hold onto their spots sitting at #5 and
#8 respectively. While the rest take a plunge down the chart.
FAR AWAY |
Artist: Nickelback |
Position: No.3 |
Their
humble start began in 1996, in a little town called Hanna
in Canada where they performed as a cover band. Eventually
they grew tired of this, so frontman Chad Kroeger
borrowed $4,000 off his stepfather and the band
traveled to Vancouver to record the tracks Kroeger
had penned. This brings us here, with the follow
up to Photograph (#3 Sep. '05).
Both off their third, double platinum album, All
The Right Reasons (#2 Oct. '05). Nickelback
are due to hit our shores this year for a full nation-wide
tour. So stay tuned for that. |

LOVE GENERATION |
Artist: Bob Sinclar |
Position: No.7 |
Born
Christophe Le Friant, in Le Marais, Paris.
He began djing in 1987 while still a teenager and formed Yellow
Productions in 1993. It wasn't until 1997 did Sinclar
take the guise "Bob Sinclar" from
a character in a well-known French film Le Magnifique.
This is Sinclar 's highest chart position
to date, with I Feel For You (#60
Oct. '00) being the only other track to make the top 100. |

IF IT'S LOVIN' THAT YOU WANT |
Artist: Rihanna |
Position: No.9 |
She
was born in Barbados in the West Indies. Then known as Robyn
Rihanna Fenty, she was winning beauty and talent
contests at a young age. It was only by a chance meeting with
executive producer Evan Rogers who was vacationing
near her village, that fate would give her the opportunity
to show her talent to the world. This is her second top 10
hit, Pon De Replay marched on the
charts late last year and peaked at #6. Both are lifted from
her debut album Music Of The Sun. |
|
CLOWN PRINCE |
Artist: Hilltop Hoods |
Position: No.35 |
They
are an Aussie hip-hop act from Adelaide. Their name refers
to the Hilltop commercial precinct of O'Halloran Hill, south
of Adelaide, where they boys come from. The group formed in
the early 90's when MC's Suffa and Pressure
met at high school. Then through a mutual friend
they met DJ Debris and their line up was
complete. This is their debut to the ARIAnet singles chart
but they are widely known for their track The
Nosebleed Section. It is featured on their album
The Calling (#53 April '04). |

I'VE GOT THE BLUES |
Artist: Amber Lawrence |
Position: No.84 |
Hailing
from Sydney, Lawrence is a rising country
star. She was a grand finalist in the prestigious Toyota
Starmaker Quest last year in Tamworth, but unfortunately
missed out on the crown. Although Lawrence
did catch the eye of award-winning producer Rod McCormack
the previous year which lead to a spot in the Telstra
Road to Tamworth show. This is her debut to the ARIAnet
Charts. |

Albums
James Blunt still
reigns supreme at #1 while those below do a little shuffle within
the ranks. Nickelback climbs from #3 to #2, while
Aussies Wolfmother, Rogue Traders,
Bernard Fanning, The Veronicas
and Human Nature sit at #3 to #7 respectively.
The biggest fall in the Top 10 for the week goes to Eminem
who tumbles six places to #8. Kelly Clarkson
doesn't fare much better - she falls five places to #10.
ULTIMATE COLLECTION |
Artist: Eurythmics |
Position: No.21 |
Eurythmics
are Annie Lennox and David
A. Stewart. The British duo started out together
as romantic partners in a band called The Tourists
before things turned sour within the band. The twosome
decided to form their own pop-rock act and abandon their relationship
to concentrate on making music. Eurythmics
enjoyed success in the 1980s with Sweet Dreams
(Are Made Of This) being the duo's breakthrough
album. It peaked at #5 (May '83). Be Yourself
Tonight went all the way to #1 (Jun. '85), while
We Too Are One reached #7 (Sep.
'89). Stewart and Lennox
parted ways for most of the 1990s but reunited in 1999 to
produce the album Peace which peaked
at #8 (Nov. '99). |
|
THE GREATEST |
Artist: Cat Power |
Position: No.25 |
Born
with the name Charlyn Marie Marshall, going
by the name of Chan Marshall (Chan
is pronounced 'Shawn'), with the stage name of Cat
Power - there is no surprise to find that this singer/songwriter
lacks a little structure in her life. She is Cherokee, Irish
and Jewish descent and dropped out of high school to pursue
the dreams of making music in New York. Power's
only album to chart in Australia is You Are Free
which reached #71 (Jun. '03). Her live shows
are known to lack direction, with songs frequently cut short
for no reason or trailing off into what sounds like Power
tuning her guitar. |
|
RING OF FIRE - THE LEGEND OF JOHNNY CASH |
Artist: Johnny Cash |
Position: No.83 |
There
has been a resurgence of Johnny Cash's music
since the release of his biopic Walk The Line
starring Joaquin Phoenix
as Cash and Reese Witherspoon
as his wife June Carter. Cash's
career spanned almost five decades. In his hey-day, he had
three Top 20 albums in Australia - Hello I'm Johnny
Cash, Johnny Cash At San Quentin
and Johnny Cash 1970.
Due to his dark demeanor and clothing, Cash was dubbed "The Man In Black" by his fans. He was known for
opening every show with the line "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash",
his run-ins with the law and battling drug and alcohol addictions. |
