     40.    Gay Sanctuary: Life in the Woods Join Date: December 16, 2004
The title of the blog, Gay Sanctuary: Life in the Woods, comes from the Paul Monnette book "Sanctuary," a fable of two female creatures who fall in love in the forest sanctuary. That love is challenged because of its differentness. The story illuminates the absurdity of society's arbitrary rules, and it celebrates the liberating nature of every kind of love. I'm facing the prospect of having to leave the U.S. to gain freedom for my family. We've been fighting a losing battle against institutional homophobia in immigration, and after the last election we've decided that it's time to grab our happiness wherever we can, and that may mean we'll have to leave the U.S. Living in the U.S. these days, just being gay feels like a daily battle. Our entire lives are being stifled by our government for only one reason: because we're gay. This blog will be a forum to express the joy and the frustration, for me and for anyone else who wishes to join me, of being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered in America. I'll also write about the process we are undertaking to find a place where we can live in freedom.
