A Brief History Of The House

Carberry Tower is over 450 years old, but was first mentioned in the writings of the monks of Dunfermline Abbey in the 11th century.

During most of this century, Carberry was owned by the Elphinstone family, but when Lady Elphinstone, the sister of the late Queen Mother, died in the early 1960's it was gifted to the Church of Scotland to be used as a youth and conference centre.

In February 1996 ownership was transferred to Carberry Trust, and transferred again to Gartmore House in September 2004.
