Get me to the church--The April 3 Wall Street Journal mentioned MHC in a front-page story about new trends in marriage patterns for graduates of elite educational institutions. According to the article, young female graduates of schools like Mount Holyoke are bucking a national demographic trend and getting married earlier (our alumnae data confirm this). From a series of interviews with sociologists and students, primarily at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, the Journal speculates that recent graduates might be motivated by the experience of older siblings who waited until later in life to get married; also, young graduates may view a husband as a mark of maturity helpful to them in the workplace.

In technicolor--Acting and singing alongside Donny Osmond in the current Boston production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is Donna Kane '84. Kane, who since graduating as a politics major has pursued a highly successful career as an actress, dancer, and singer, is playing the role of the narrator in the new production of the popular Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. On March 31, Kane helped host a special on WGBH-TV in Boston about the musical Les Miserables, in which Kane starred as Fantine in the Broadway production. Kane has won wide acclaim for her performances, including the coveted Theatre World Award for her debut as Ruby in the New York revival of Dames at Sea. More recently, before working in Boston, Kane played Maria in West Side Story in Vienna and Munich.
