Wolfgang:
New Album Out, US Tour Announced by Jim Ayson
Wolfgang fans waiting for the long awaited follow up to 1999's "Serve in Silence" album finally have their prayers answered. Their live unplugged release "Acoustica" (from Sony Music Philippines) hit the stores last week. This features excerpts from their one-night stand "Silenced" concert at the Music Museum last September 30. That performance highlighted Wolfgang - Basti Artadi (vocals), Manuel Legarda (guitar), Mon Legaspi (bass), and Wolf Gemora (drums) - in a mainly unplugged setting enhanced with special guests David Aguirre (ex-Razorback) on second guitar, Paul Zialcita of Spy on percussion, and Radha Cuadrado of Kulay on guest vocals.
This is Wolfgang's second commercially available live recording. This year they were included in Sony Music's "Soundcheck: The Live Recordings" which also featured other local rock bands in the Sony stable such as Razorback, Greyhoundz, and Da Pulis - likewise recorded at the Music Museum. As of this writing, the compact disc of "Acoustica" has yet to make it to the shelves as the inevitable CD manufacturing delays plaguing local album releases has affected this title as well. Currently only the cassette version of the album was being reported on sale in stores. However, the cassette comes bundled with a free Video CD showing video footage from the concert. Given the reportedly excellent quality of the video, fans writing in on the band's mailing list have been quoted as saying that the price is a superb deal just for the video alone. "I just finished watching the VCD. Wow man, kakakilabot," wrote 'Leigh' on WolfMusic@eGroups, the band's mailing list. "I definitely got MORE than my money's worth." Another fan, John Mark Valencia, uabashedly gave the overall package a "10 -- Two thumbs up."
Left on the cutting room floor Not all is rosy in Acoustica-land however. One complaint raised by fans who watched both the live concert and listened to the album was the exclusion of key highlights of the concert, such as a few cover songs, a solo number by Radha, and the band's encore number - where they chucked the acoustic guitars, plugged electrics into their amps, and performed some Led Zeppelin tributes. Drummer Wolf Gemora defended the record company's decision to cut out these performances from the album. "The reason why the whole set was not included was because it simply cannot fit into one CD," e-mailed Wolf to fans on WolfMusic. "The idea of putting out a double album wouldn't be too good. So enjoy what we've given you and hopefully we'll release the whole set soon."
In related news, US-based fans who have heard the band on CDs and bootleg MP3s may soon have the opportunity of catching the band's live performances as well. Wolf Gemora and Wolfgang manager Lucielle Fiedelino were in California early November and finalized arrangements for a Wolfgang tour with Alvin "Wax" Apuan of northern California-based Synchronicity Productions. Synchronicity has also been instrumental in bringing in other RP-based bands to America, notably the Eraserheads. In
a press release yesterday (11/21), Synchronicity Productions announced
the following tour dates for the Wolfgang US tour: Dates
