Good Fiction: Through A Glass Darkly

This is a very good piece of horror fiction, set in the Delta Green universe. It's the sequel to Rules of Engagement by John Tynes. It's the first 3rd of the novel. Based on this sample, I am very much looking forward to the novel coming out in a buyable form.

Renaissance Resource: The Cardinal's Hat

The Cardinal's Hat by Mary Hollingsworth.
If you're running an adventure in Renaissance Italy or
some equivalent, I can see this book being very
useful. The author found the account ledgers for
Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, one of the sons of Lucrezia
Borgia. In these account books, the Cardinal's
managers wrote down everything that the household
consumed, bought, had built, hired, and how much it
all cost. The account of the party that Ippolito threw
for his brother and his new wife by itself could be
the centerpiece of a gaming session. The party/dinner
was seven hours long and had about 40 courses.
As I was reading the book, I kept thinking to myself
how useful all this information would be to either add
local color to a campaign or give background careers
for the players.
And there are pictures/paintings/woodcuts as well. The
interior of a kitchen, different kinds of kitchen
knives, a tennis court.
All in all, very useful.
