Media Outreach

Important Media Work that You can do

Media coverage significantly magnifies our voice. And it’s up to all of us to generate media coverage of the SOA and efforts to close it down. Taking a little time to carry out a handful of media-related tasks can profoundly impact the number of people in your area who know about the SOA and the number of people who get involved in the work to CLOSE IT DOWN.

Work with Your Local Media!

You are news! The story of you and your community traveling to Washington, DC for Lobby Days and Actions, caravaning to Fort Benning, Georgia for the annual “Close the SOA” demonstration or holding an action in your town is a great story! Let local media outlets—newspapers, TV, community radio stations--know about the vigil, the SOA/ WHINSEC and your group’s upcoming plans.

Contact your local newspaper to tell them of your group’s plans for an action, to travel to DC or to the vigil. Invite a reporter to your next meeting. Invite them to your event! Click here for a sample press release you can use in your media outreach.

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Connect a recent article with the story of your group's plans. Click here for a sample letter to the editor.

Write a Letter to the Editor

Take a few minutes to respond to an article or issue in your local paper. This is your chance to "sound off" to your community about issues in the news, and letters to the editor are widely read. Click here for the basics about letters to the editor, and a general sample letter.
