Getting around Rottnest

Bicycle
The most popular form of transport for visitors on Rottnest is the bicycle. No private vehicles are allowed on Rottnest, and service vehicles are kept to a minimum, so it is an ideal cycling destination for visitors of all ages - in fact, generations of Western Australians have learnt to ride here! A Bike Hire service is available on the Island, or you can arrange to transport your own bicycle with your chosen ferry company.

Bayseeker Bus
The Bayseeker Bus does just what it says - it seeks out and drops you off at the most beautiful beaches and bays on the Island. Day tickets can be purchased from the Visitor  Centre on this "hop-on, hop-off" service. For those who would like a more comprehensive orientation of the Island, a Two Hour Island Coach Tour with full commentary gives you the chance to see the Island's scenic beauty and gain a wider insight into its history and natural environment. Tickets are available from the Visitor Centre in Thomson Bay.

Transfer Bus
This courtesy Transfer Bus Service is a free service that transports visitors between the main accommodation areas on the Island. It departs from the main bus stop in the Thomson Bay settlement and travels to Geordie, Fay's and Longreach Bays. It then returns to the main bus stop and proceeds to the Airport and Kingstown Barracks. Please note that the transfer bus service does not go to the Basin.

Walking
Guided Walking Tours the Rottnest Voluntary Guides or Visitor Centre staff are a delightful way to learn more about Rottnest. You can also take the Train to Oliver Hill, in the centre of the Island, for a spectacular view of both Rottnest and the mainland, and a close look at the spectacular 9.2 inch diameter gun emplacement. A new interpretive trail at Bickley Battery, behind Kingstown Barracks, is an interesting self-guided tour of this historic area, incorporating the old railway line, plotting room and gun emplacement as well as some of the most spectacular ocean views found on the Island. Another self-guided tour is also available on Signal Hill, where the Wadjemup Lighthouse is located. Visitors to this area can gain further insight into Rottnest Island's important role during World War Two.
