Mehmet Scholl

The sight of Mehmet Scholl gliding past defenders or curling home devastating free-kicks has been sadly rare in recent seasons, as recurring injuries have restricted him to a supporting role. "I've had some very difficult years," the number seven admits, but 'Scholli' is a long way from calling it a day. The former Germany international is the longest-serving player at the club with twelve Bundesliga seasons under his belt. But although he made only five league appearances last term, he noticed "I wasn't just making up the numbers, I was still in command," so the decision to play on was easily taken: "I'm simply enjoying it too much."
