Food

Basically nectar of various flowers. Also picks off insects from vegetation

Reproduction

Two pale eggs in a delicate, cup-shaped nest of thin plant material well hidden in foliage. Incubation about two weeks. The birds cover a wide range in the non-breeding period.

Remarks

Conspicuous white circle around the eyes. Male and female plumage alike. Numbers have declined from an estimated 300 pairs in 1975 to about half that number in 1990.
Illustrated ion a 4 cent stamp and a calendar published by the State Commercial Bank.
