Jere Locke Beasley
Jere Locke Beasley was born December 12, 1935 in Tyler, Texas, to Browder Locke and Florence Camp Beasley . His family moved to Alabama during the Depression and opened a small grocery store in Clayton, Barbour County. He received his B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1959 and his J.D. from the University of Alabama in 1962 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar that same year. Beasley served as Lt. Governor from 1971-1979, and as Governor from June 5-July 7, 1972 while Governor George Wallace was in a Maryland hospital for more than 20 days recovering from an assassination attempt.Beasley is the senior member of the firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., which since 1962 has become one of the nation's leading groups of trial lawyers. During his career, Jere Beasley has tried hundreds of cases, and was co-lead counsel in the record $11.9 billion punitive damages award against ExxonMobil Corp. on behalf of the state of Alabama in 2003. Mr. Beasley is married to the former Sara Baker of Adamsville, Alabama. They have three children and four grandchildren. He attends St. James Methodist Church in Montgomery.
