Names For This Star
This star is also known as Enf, Enir, Al Anf, Os Pegasi, or Fom.
The names Enif, Enf, Enir, and Al Anf derive from the Arabic name Al Anf, meaning "The Nose (of the Horse)."
Fom derives from the Arabic Fum al Faras, "The Horse's Mouth." Os Pegasi is a Latin translation of this phrase.
Description of the Star
Enif is a cool, orange K2Ib supergiant. The luminosity would be around 4000 times that of the sun. The diameter of the star would be maybe 300 times the diameter of the sun, so that the earth would be engulfed by the star, if we had Enif at the center of the solar system instead of our sun. Burnham estimates the mass of the star as 10 solar masses.
