Border Band Version
CLASSIC RIBBED HAT
(not too tight, fits just right!)
Gauge : approx. 9 sts to 2 inches (measured
over right side of pattern stitch)
One size fits all
Worsted weight yarn , about 150 yards, 1 - 16 inch circular needle, size
8, plus set of 4 double pointed needles, size 8.
Note: If making version with contrasting border
edging, allow about 8 yards of another color.
Cast on 81 sts onto circular. Join, being carefull
not to twists sts. Place a marker for beginning
of round. Pattern: * K 2, P 1* repeating between
*'s around until about 10 inches from beg. Change
to double pointed needles:
Top shaping: Rnd 1: * K 2 tog, P 1* repeating
between *'s around. (54 sts) Next 4 rounds:
* K 1, P 1 * repeating between *'s around Second
decrease: * K 2 tog, K 1, P 1 * repeating between
*'s around, to last 4 sts, then K 2 tog, P 2
tog. Next 3 rounds: * K 2, P 1 * repeating between
*'s around. ( 39 sts) Third decrease: * K 2
tog, P 1 * repeating around. ( 26 sts) Next
2 rounds: * K 1, P 1 * repeating around. Fourth
Decrease: * K 2 tog. * repeating around. Then
repeat this last round, ending K 1.
Cut yarn, thread sewing needle with yarn end,
pull through remaining sts. Pull to close top.
Weave in yarn ends.
Border band version: With contrasting color
cast on as above, and work first 2 rows. Cut
yarn, and join main color. Complete as above.
