MALS-49 Det B was redesignated MALS-42(-) on 18 June 1992. The unit immediately began off-site training detachments to MALS-14 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. MALS-42 made significant progress in 1993 in growing and reorganizing its staff to provide aviation logistics support for AH-1W and OV-10 transitions. During 1993, the unit provided logistical support at ECAX 7/8 and conducted several off-site detachments MALS-14 and MALS-26. In 1994, MALS-42 participated in off-site drills to New River, a 10 year TEEP Planning Conference and spent its AT supporting Exercise Pinnacle Advance. MALS-42 has also provided aviation logistical support to MALS-26 at MCAS New River, NC. Several of its officers were, during that time, tasked to draft the Fleet Replacement Group (ERG) Plan under which a Reserve MALS would be activated to replace an intermediate level maintenance squadron during a major Regional Conflict (MRC). The Mission of Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron Forty-Two is to organize and train individual Marines and equip the Combined Elements to provide Aviation Logistics Support for sustained Combat Flight Operations of a Marine Air/Ground Task Force (MAGTF).
