Usage

Ionomycin is more effective than A23187 as a Ca++ ionophore.
Ionomycin  is used in research on  Ca++
transport across biological membranes;
Ionomycin induces apoptotic degeneration of embryonic cortical neurons.
 

Caution:

Potentially hazardous.  LD50: 650 mg/kg, oral, mouse; 12 mg/kg, intraperitoneal, mouse. To our knowledge, the hazards of this material have not yet been thoroughly investigated.
