In Your Honour
(Sony/BMG)

The buzz surrounding In your Honour is palpable.

A double album; one rock, one acoustic, it's an ambitious undertaking for a band like the Foo Fighters but the intrepid Grohl isn't concerned, hailing it their best album to date.

The single "Best Of You" was our first taste of what was to come and while the band came out of their corner fighting with a song full of Foo Fighters trademarks, the first punch fell short and failed to whip up the same frenzy as previous singles "All My Life" (2002) and "Learn To Fly" (1999).

Thankfully, "In Your Honour", the opening track on disk one, does what "Best Of You" should have and reminds the world what the band is capable of. A promising start, but in the same way "One By One" lost it's way after fifth track "Disenchanted Lullaby", this album also fails to maintain momentum.

"In Your Honour" and "No Way Back" stick out like sore thumbs on a disk that, sadly, is pretty forgettable.

Disk two is better and will undoubtedly prove to be the soundtrack to the summer for many. "Cold Day In The Sun" sees drummer Taylor Hawkins taking over vocal duties. The result is one of the album's best tracks and is as contagious as 1995's "Big Me".

But as poignant as this disk is, it suffers the same fate as the first, with only a few tracks lingering, particularly "Friend Of A Friend" and the infamous Norah Jones collaboration "Virginia Moon" which actually works surprisingly well.

In truth, In your Honour is disappointing because it doesn't live up to the hype. However, there are several songs on this double disk that stand head and shoulders above the rest and truly represent how the Foo Fighters have developed. It's just the songs in between that let the album down and despite declarations to the contrary, In your Honour doesn't surpass their debut or the sublime The Colour And The Shape.

Maybe if they had just taken the best tracks from each disc and put them on one album they might have succeeded.

Read what other people had to say about this album...

i cant believe that your reviewer thinks that!
bobby dazzller

As with One by One this album is something of a slowburner, but take a few listens and you'll probably love it!
Peege, Manchester

Is the reviewer listening to the same album that I am?!! This album is a true masterpiece in song-writing and in my opinion Foos have finally fulfilled their true potential.
Rob, Swindon

Ok your reviewer is possibly the worst I have ever encountered: this is most deffinately album of the year material! Every track sounds bettter and better and the album is the best one the Foos have released.
David, Wokingham

I hate the foo fighters. the prospect of a new album basically was one of the most terrifying thoughts of 2005. Then i heard the best of you and i genuinely liked it. THEN came the obscene overexposureof their only half decent song. This is a man who has rided on the coat tails of Nirvana 11 years after the death of the talented (but over-rated)Kurt Cobain. They Should stop now before they offend me and anyone else with an iota of intelligence any more than they already have.
Tom, Dronfield

AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Whats happened in the past few years? 'in your honour' is the same poor performance as 'there is nothing left to lose' and 'one by one'. what happened to the days of 'foo fighters' and 'the colour and the shape'? i'm a big foos fan and rushed out to buy the debut album, but having heard these latest three dismal attempts, i am losing my faith. they sound as if they're sounding well to polished and 'c*** rock' sounding. similar to the chilli peppers decline into taking themselves to seriously. all in all, the foo fighters peaked to soon after. 'foo fighters' and 'the colour and the shape', their digression began. nice try lads but please, i know i'm living in the past, but lets have classics like 'alone and easy target' and 'for all the cows' back in our ears.
babs, macclesfield

I do agree with the reviewer on some points like they should have put the best songs from the two disks together and that it doesn't beat colour and shape in any aspect but keeping that in mind it still remains a good album that didn't leave me at all disappointed when i bought it, the rock cd is your typical foo fighters but i think they should be congratulated on their attempt with the acoustic one because its something no-one else has tried and doesn't sound bad at all.(And its two cd's for the price of one which aint half bad)
Mark, Manchester

Its a mint album! I love it, its just one of the best albums around!
Dipsy - Burton

It's pretty boring. Grohl should go back to playing the drums.
Dougy, Newcastle

To Tom from Dronefield!(see what I did there) Dave Grohl has not as you said rode on KK's coat-tails not only was he the rythmic driving force behind nirvana's awe inspiring songs, he has also accrued an incredible back catalogue that has surpassed in some respects nirvanas and he has managed to do it without blowing his head off
andy,oxford

This is in my opinion is the best foo fighters album to date. The previous two albums although good in their own right have had holes in them, in your honour plugs these holes and is the most complete foo album since 'The colour and the shape.' The rock disc is the heaviest material that the band have made commercially available. The first half of the album takes the formulas that have made the foos what they are today but this time they have cranked the amp upto 11, adding heavier riffs. The last three tracks are less of a leap but more of a step away from previous material but still classic foo fighters. This album seems to have combined the classic foo fighters staple with Grohl's hardcore and metal underlyings (see probot)and the raw aggression that saw Grohl emerge in his own right in 1995; 'Free me' is a transcendance through all of these. I did wonder how they would ever top 'All my life' as a show starter but i believe 'in your honour' is a suitable replacement for the next tour. Although the second disc is very good, for me it is not what the foo fighters are about. They are one of the few bands that will consistantly put on a great live rock concert which has partly been their success over the last ten years, even when sufferring from laryngitis! These songs will be phenomenal live. The stand out acoustic track for me is 'cold day in the sun' where Dave and Taylor swap mic and stool respectively. Your reviewer needs to get some ears, the foos are at their best.
Tom, Cambridgeshire

I bought this album and i think it is one of their best. I like the second disc better but i like to switch between each. The song 'in your honour' should be released as it is way better than 'best of you. I would give this album 9 out of 10
shea, Armagh

The CD is class. The Foo's are class. If you don't like, don't listen!
Mark, Paisley

Dave Grohl = Drummer. Nothing more. He should have stayed with Queens of the stone age!
nick, cheshire

Poor Mans Nirvana. Dreadful.
Gaz, West Mids.

I think some of these comments are a bit wide of the mark. The reviewer got it pretty much spot on. It's a good album but nobody can truly say it's a great one and it certainly isn't a patch on their first two. It's disappointing that they've never really brought out the awesome album that they are clearly capable of. I enjoyed the album from start to finish (nice change of pace with the 2nd disc, by the way) but it just felt a bit of a let down and made me want to dig out their earlier albums or some Nirvana.
Ian from Bournemouth

this albulm rocks! foo fighters rardly ever do accustic and all the tracks are really good, if you don't think so you need you head examined! lol
sarah london

that reviewer sux this is by far one of the best albums they have ever released
lewis yorkshire

Can some one remind me, did Grohl actually play in Nirvana!! Now we know why Kurt shot himself, Dave brought him some songs to listen to. I saw Foo Fighters last Saturday and it confirmed my suspicions that Grohl has completely sold out. What next Dave will you be composing the next soundtrack for the OC???
Incredulous

I think this album is amazing. the rock and acoustic cd are sure class especially DOA and Razor
Bob from Iceland

what does the reviewer listen to anyways? based on her review, i'm under the impression that she's deaf or she prefers bubblegum pop. i dunno about everyone else, but this album is definintely a killer. well crafted from the song writing to the recording. and please stop the comparison with nirvana. if you like nirvana so much, why don't you listen to their old albums. what we have here are the foo fighters. you'd all hate dave grohl the more if he did a nirvana rip off. dave is his own man.
george, some 3rd world country

I think although its not colour and the shape, it is still an accomplished record by a highly talented band. I also think its about time people stopped going on about nirvanna and Grohl's past, he has proven that he is a good song writer and front man and in a band that ultimately are not grunge but modern heavy rock
Euan, Glasgow

It is an excellent cd and if you dont like it...well you're missing out
Zar, KL

i know its an easy thing to do but why is everyone comparing the foo fighters to nirvana? They are completely different bands, if you are a nirvana fan and don't like the foo foghters stick to nirvana, don't write biased reviews when all you are waiting for is grohl to produce a nevermind II. It isn't going to happen he is far above that and can produce far more tuneful and complete songs than the vastly overated cobain ever did. Don't get me wrong i am a nirvana fan but i do feel that many other fans are still stuck in the early 1990's, its time to move on.
Tom, Cambridgeshire

Its great! If you dont like it, dont f****** listen to it. Whats the point in coming on here and insulting a band that so many people like? Its pathetic. Fair enough if you dont like them, but still.. Anyway, Rock side is better than the acoustic side. I need to give the acoustic side more of a listen. DOA and Best of you are the best songs. And i agree about it not being as good as the colour and the shape, but what is?
Lauren, Manchester

I'm not a fan of the Foo's but liked the single The Best and gave them a listen at TITP and was impressed so gave the album a listen and have to say its pretty good from what i've heard so far
Vicki, Dundee

How can you say anything bad about this album, you blasphemer
Shall, Birmingham

wo,wo, wo. Foos rocked last saturday. Not 100% sure about the second disc but its foo fighters so i'll forgive them.
vicky, newcastle

This album is awesome..DOA is the best foo's song since Everlong..i still think " The Colour and The Shape" is the best foo's album..one of the best of 90's most defiantly
Ant, Cardiff

Lets face it, Grohl is a talented musician and undoubtedly 'colour and the shape'is one of the greatest alternative albums of recent years. But Grohl had totally sold out and his music has become so bland it's unreal. I've seen interviews with Grohl who goes on about how rock music is about rebellion, well whats rebellious about this aibum? Nothin it's bland. And Tom Kurt Cobain not tuneful, overated, go and wash your mouth out with soap you complete butt munch! Let's face it if it wasn't for his unbelievable talent the foo fighters wouldn't of even been able to record this record, he opened the door for alternative music and anyone who slags him off just needs a head check. Now get back to your McFly CD Poppet.
Dave, Newcastle

how can anyone say anythink bad about the foo fighters? they are original and have there own sound, and they deffenitly show it in this album. Tfestival was the best woooot!! :p
stace* portsmouth

This is one of the best albums they have done . I think Dave Grohl should be given credit and not be vilified because he had the audacity to play the drums in Nirvana. He is a rock god. Both discs are superb and i fail to find a weak song on either of them . The deepest Foos are back.
pete liverpool

this is a kick arse album. to be honest it took me a bit of a listen but after a while it dawns on you how great this album is. im a big foos fan and think it sits perfectly with everything that has gone before. thanks again dave!
adam, london

Dave from newcastle, your exactly the kind of person that i wrote about. Im not denying that Cobain opened the door but his legacy has been blown well out of proportion. go listen to some real, well crafted music like Sabbath, Maiden and Metallica, bands that have stayed the distance despite their problems unlike your 'hero' who couldn't handle the pressure and bailed when the pressure got to much for him. Hope you sleep well with your narrow minded media whitewashed view of cobain, open your mind you might even get some friends. Oh and i hope your not still weeping over the busted break up
tom, cambridgeshire

Not bad but certainly not their best work. To my surprise, I much prefer the 'acoustic' CD than the 'rock' one. I found that the rock CD was 'more of the same' and the songs not as strong as 'Everlong', 'Learn To Fly', This is a Call'. The acoustic CD is a nice mellow summer soundtrack... but I expected a bit more from them.
Chris, London

I saw a live concert of this new album! It's amazing, Foo Fighters are excelent, and I love Dave...
- Marin * Argentina -

I think they should just go back to using the same equipment and tone they had when they made the colour and the shape... and also get rid of chris. Create some rock!
Steve, London

I Think Green Day's Better, but Foo Fighters are allright. Especially Learn To Fly...........Green Day rule!
St Jimmy, Suburbia

i think its great how they released the album with two cd's instead of one because most bands would have released them seperatly in order to make more money. plus both discs are amazing and i really love 'in your honour' and 'razor'.
christine

Forgettable ? Disappointing ? MY A**E !! "In Your Honour" is a masterpiece, and in my opinion stands proudly alongside other Foo classics such as "Colour and the Shape ", etc . DOA ,Resolve, Miracle, Over and Out are some of the finest tracks they have ever written. Cant wait to see them live . Dave Grohl for president !!!
Lee , Liverpool

Awesome. As a newcomer to the 'Foo world' I can only say keep it comin' boys.
Kevin, Adlington, Lancs.

Its an excellent lp, up there with their debut.
Graeme, Glasgow

i cant believe this review... its badly writen and takes a very bad perspective. i love the new album and think the acustic side is some of the best writing dave has ever done. how dare all these nirvana freaks tell him to go back to playing drums or say that he is riding on the success of nirvana. if any of these losers read anything they will know that dsve is ten times more proud of the foos than nirvana he was only in that band for 3 years but has been a foo fighter for the past TEN! dave dosnt even like talking about nirvana!!! IYH is an amazing album 10/10... but 0/10 for your rubbish reviewer.
sarah london

we love it!!!!
flick and ellie dorset

Good Album. Why compatre to Nirvana, that was a long time ago and Nirvana were not as good. Stop the comparison.. Grohl is a great talent in todays rock scene and should be appreciated
Steve, London

I saw the Foos live @ Wercher in Belgium & they rocked! Went out and bought their new album the following Monday and it's awesome! Love it!
Heidi

Certainly not the foo's best stuff, but then what could compare to the color and the shape?!
Charley, Nottingham

Oh my God tom! Yeah Sabbath and metallica! the biggest bunch of sell out losers going, ozzy with his reality show and metallica playin the media circus whats genuine about that? Nothing at all why don't you listen to some real music like colour of fire, serafin and the manics some propa BRITISH bands you yank loving loser! Oh and the busted joke very original! Gonk!
Dave, Newcastle

To sarah london. A word to the wise: if you're gonna criticise someone for writing badly, check your spelling. 0/10
Anna, London

no album the Foos make could ever sound as good as the colour and the shape but this album is still gr8! if you dont like it dont listen to it!
erica, dumfries

SHUT UP ABOUT GREENDAY!! theyre gr8 but this is the FOOFIGHTERS!!!
anon

Ok,I don't know what some of these people are talking about! There is no contest or comparison to be made between Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl, what decade are you living in? Dave and the band have put together a collection of some the most most beautiful lyrics and amazing rifts to make this one of the best albums I have ever heard. One of the most under rated musicians and bands will be on the lips and minds of everyone soon thanks to this album. Bloody amazin!
Mrs Grohl To Be, Belfast

Good god, is this a discussion about a Foo Fighters album or an excuse for NME-brainwashed, Nirvana obsessed, rose-tinted bespectacled losers to moan about how the Foo's aren't as good as their beloved but HUGELY overhyped Nirvana. The Foo's may not be as cherished by the deeply pretentious Music press as Nirvana were but who gives a flying f**k. The Foo's make fantastic Rock songs. End of. Get a life Cobain cultists...he's gone!
Peglegs, Newcastle

I have only listened to the rock side of this album and with the foo fighters being fronted by dave grohl i expected this album to be one of the best albums I'd ever heard. Well this album is good and songs like free me are really good but some of it is really bland like best of you. I really think they shouldnt have released that as their first single because its not one the best songs on the album. I was overall a bit dissapointed with this album but when I have listened to the acoustic side I will make my mind up on weather this album is good or just average. Dave Grohl needs to be releasing more material in the genre of learn to fly. Its what he does best. Oh and drumming.
Katy, North Wales

STOP COMPARING!! FOOs & Nirvana. Its like Rage and Audioslave / milk & cola it doesnt work;KURT LOVERS-KKs fame boosted when he killed himself, end of. 10 years in and foos are still alive.I love the foos mainly cos i like ALL their albums to date and "in your honor" is no exception, Clearly very well put together even if not all the songs are everyones Foo flavour but no two albums will be the same and that the beauty of it the music world over?. there cant be another TCTS or whatever it already exists!!!!!! "ROCK ON GROHL"
craig , sawbridgeworth

Only one thing to say: 'The Color and the Shape' is one of the greatest albums of the 90s. Few come close, and 'In Your Honor', like so many others, falls short of those incredibly high standards. Any album boasting tracks like 'Everlong', 'My Hero' and 'Hey, Johnny Park!' (the most underrated song of the last 10 years?). All that said, the new album's an improvement on the previous over-long and dry 'One by One', but the Foos come into their own live - so if you have the chance, buy a ticket and rock out!!
Mike, Hong Kong

hmmm, long review short, ROCK ON!!!!!
satan, hell

Rage are more of a fine wine with Audioslave being a classic whiskey.
Sam, Cromarty

Best album yet. Gets better and better every time i listen!
Hollie, Kent

This cd is fantastic. Their other cds are fantastic. The foos rock. And Nirvana are overated. Thats all there is to say!
Eddy the man , Surrey

Where was this album when I was growing up? When I was still enjoying the angst that topnotch album "Take That and Party" provided me, I was actually looking for the songs I heard on this album. Songs such as "In Your Honour" sound as a band on the cusp of something new. It sends shivers down my spine in much the same way as "Pray" touched me in a way I could not imagine until then. The emotive wailings of "No Way Back" bring back fond memories of classic Take That songs such as "It Only Takes A Minute" or "I Found Heaven"...
Dave Southcombe, 27 , Maastricht

To be honest i excepected this album to grow on me, it is gradually, and I think the foos should focus on their more sublime accoustic songs as that cd is by far the stronger of the two, except for no way back that is cracking. Having seen them a few times I am sure we can rely on them to crank out the classics from the first two albums, I agree with mike, there are some highly underated songs on previous albums (hey johnny park!...ace) but alot of the other tracks on those albums were not particularily memorable either, this seems a typical foos release; Genius mixed with forgetable dross...end of story! One tip, see them live....much tighter than nirvana ever were.
scallum, salisbury/manchester

i agree with "mrs grohl to be". you can't compare nirvana with foo fighters. Foo Fighters are a great band that have been greatly underestimated and i think they've finally found themselves with album. no question its a great album.
Joe, England

Being a fan of Foo Fighters, this is really a dissapointment. I'm sorry to say that I have to agree with the reviewer on almost everything. This is not anywhere near as good as albums like The Colour and the Shape, although some songs are good. The acoustic cd is largely crap except for Friend Of A Friend and Cold Day In The Sun. This album could never hope to compare to those other cds.
Mike, Canada

obviously, opinions wil differientiate with each person and I would never say another person's opinion is wrong, however i do think the review was a little harsh. this album is, in grohl's words thought to be 'the last' and instead of making a great album to set up a follow up, the band has made a great farewell; rather than making the songs commerical and radio friendly they instead have made them unique and songs that only obviously true fans will cherish and enjoy, if they do cease to exist in the aftermath of touring this phenomenal masterpiece, at the height of each of the band members' talents.
Yazz, Stoke

My favourite song on this album is razor, the more I listen to it, the more I love it, no matter what anyone says i will still love this album...both parts! -^_^-
umah ganeshalingam, London

Did the reviewer even listen to the album? Totally disagree and i hope that you don't get to review another album again after reading that.
Luke, Bristol

This could of been their strongest album yet if they just stuck the best songs from both sides together. I think the heavier side is much better than the acoustic although I will say that it does have some stand-outs such as Miracle, Friend of a Friend, Cold Day In The Sun and Razor. The heavier disc includes the best song which is Best of You and has much more impact than anything on the other disc. If only they had stuck to what they're good at they might have finally surpassed The Colour & The Shape or Foo Fighters but instead leave me wondering if there will ever be another true classic Foo Fighters album. Just like One By One - good, but not great!
Jason, Strabane, N. Ireland

Not good, not good at all!!! Try Snow Patrol for an instance:)
Brett,Belgium

I think you need a new reviewer. This album is the best Foo Fighters album yet. end of.
Matty, Mirfield

Loads of people love this record. Why? Because it is full of MOR rubbish that Coldplay would be proud to have written. Anyone liking this should go back and listen to "This is a Call", "Everlong", "For all the Cows" & "Monkeywrench" to see just how far the Foos have fallen. A collaboration with Norah Jones? That says it all really.
Chris, Sheffield

In Your Honour isn't up there with Colour and The Shape but is still a really good album.
Sarah, Glasgow

I think this guy is not really into the Foos´powerful music. IYH drove me insane! Beautiful music, passionate lyrics. I can say that Dave´s been getting more and more talented as a songwriter. the greatest one ever since Grant Hart (from Husker Du)!
Rangel, Recife - Brazil

I like the album but my all time Foo favourite will still be The Colour And The Shape. From the album tracks I think 'Cold Day In The Sun,' The Last Song' and 'No Way Back' are the best. The reviewer must have something against Dave Grohl. although i dont think its their best album its defiantly not as bad as he is making out. My friend was very wary of the quiet side to the album and doesn't like it much but after seeing Dave perform 'Razor' on Jules Holland i knew it would be good. i think i prefer that side to the loud rock.
Sarah, Leicester

What was this reviewer on, this album is superb and at least as good a TCATS. I've had this in my car since the day of its release .. I saw them play "Hell" at the Astoria last week .. awesome! I don't understand the Nirvana comparisons, pointless .. I never liked Nirvana anyway .. it was only after listening to "One by One" that i bought a Nirvana album and it wasn't as addictive as any Foo's CD. "Best of you" is a classic and has appealed to a whole new audience that were otherwise indifferent to the Foo's. Finally why on earth is anyone reviewing a Foo Fighters album if they'd rather listen to "Snow Patrol !"
Stuart, London

What has happened to FF! I think they on a downward turn. They'll never hit the heights of song such as Everlong again...shame.
Ralph, Malph

Saw Foos last week at Leeds fesitval and they were very good. However this album frankly is uninspired and a little dull with a very consistent (read samey) feel to it. Unfortunate.
Gareth, Maidstone

It's not the classic colour and shape was but its still excellent, two cd's are perfect for any mood, the tracks link perfectly, truely thought and emotion provoking!
Darryl Manchester

SIMPLY THEIR BEST. I HAVE ALL THE OTHER ALBUMS & THIS TOPS THEM ALL. OUR KIDS ARE 10 & 4 AND BOTH OF THEM LOVE IT TOO. DAVE & THE BOYS ROCK & IN NO WAY SHOULD BE COMPARED TO NIRVANA - TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLE OF MUSIC. IF YA DON'T LIKE IT THEN STICK TO LISTENING TO MCFLY AND OTHER CRAP LIKE THAT !!!!!
STEPHEN & DIANE, BANGOR, CO DOWN

I cant help feeling that 2 disks was too much. some great tracks but the rock album fades into one in the second half. dont get me wrong, i went out to buy the album straight away as a foos fan, but i feel dave talked this one up too much. i appreciated the acoustic foo sound much more when it was just dropped into the rest of the album as the contrast made anything much more touching. on its own on the 2nd album, again, i think it dragged. 2 cds for value, but whats the point when i feel like cutting both to a single 14 odd tracks cd...
Chris, London

You cant compare the foos and nirvana. They are now 10 years apart, people grow up and things change. Grohl was a major part of the nirvana sound, but hes older now and as such the songs have matured. It seems like the original nirvana fans havent though... New nirvana fans hopefully will, but if your a young new fan dont expect music from a thritysomething band to appeal! Good Album, its the foos but older and wiser.
Chris, Devon

Nirvana were a inspiration no doubt, but theyre over now, ppl should stop looking for the foos to be another nirvana cos clearly theyre not, they are however still a great band, this talk of Dave selling out? to who? its his career and the only expectation he has to live upto is his own, its his choice what he does with his music. His is an unbelievibly hard working man, with working with the foos, qotsa, probot, he's branched out into other genre's clearly making his mark. The foos are wot they are! Well done on a really decent album.
John, Liverpool

Thats some serious rubbish! I can listen to both CD's constanly! To me it's not as good as The Colour & Shape CD but it's pretty damn close.
rmh87

amazing album, best of the year. cant wait to see them in december at earls court
Harri Essex

No-one can say anything bad about the Foo Fighters! They are awesome, and so is In Your Honour!
David, Southend

Best album of the year, easily! best song - cold day in the sun, taylor should take to the mic more often!
Natalie, Suffolk

Ok listen up, I wouldn't usually care to write something on a website but there are way too many uneducated kids that are involved with rock music today to understand what is good and what is bad. Nirvana were a milestone rock band, Foo Fighters are like the adopted children of Nirvana. THERE WOULD BE NO INDIE BANDS IF IT WERE NOT FOR KURT COBAIN. Remember that, he broke Rock music into the mainstream. And the reason why he did that was because he could write songs that were as heavy as Cradle of Filth, but as Melodic as the Beatles. He was also a true artist. His songs are ragged and catchy but they have a deeper meaning. Polly is a true story about a girl getting raped, and Kurt sings from the perspective of the psychokiller. Lithium is about how we so blindly force ourselves to follow religion and beliefs when we deep down know theres nothing. Come As You Are is an artistic, beautifully written version of Be Yourself. Smells Like Teen Spirit is making fun of rock music, Kurt was making people jump around and mosh like crazy while singing the words, "With the lights out, it's less dangerous, here we are now, entertain us, I feel stupid, and contageous," obviously mocking the moshers. In Bloom is about how people don't understand rock music or know what they're singing about, but the chorus is so catchy it forces you to sing along, unknowingly. These ideas are deeply original and creative. There's nothing creative and original about dave grohl on an artistic level. Yes sure he's amazing drummer, but it stops there. Kurt Cobain was a genius, and just by seeing the comments here, it proves he's more of a genius than I thought because it's true, there are so many sheep out there that just have no clue about what's great music, what is poetry, what is artistic genius and what is meaningless heavy crap. Dave Grohl came from a nice family, he has nothing to scream about, he should be singing pop music. Kurt Cobain was homeless from the age of 17, living underneath a bridge for most of the years. He has a lot to scream about. Music should be expressive, not unnessecary.
Steven, London

i absoluteley love this album...i think its their best yet...i really dont think the reviewer knows what shes on about...i cant go even a day without listening to it!!!
Resh,Leicester

I agree with this reviewer I found the album a bit flat and much prefer the acoustic disc, I find the foo's do better at slower paced quieter songs funnily.
kristian, wirral

Everyone has different standards when it comes to music, and if i had never got past the "bland boring commercial rock" stage, then i might have something good to say about this album!! unfortunately with such innovative bands around such as "the mars volta" "the dillinger escape plan" and countless bands from the 60's and 70's who made original (i cant believe someone on here called foo fighters original, lol) challenging and frankly awe-inspiring music, the thought of foo fighters having higher album sales as any of those bands makes me feel physically ill!! ("friend of a friend" and "over and out" from the acoustic disc are actually very good songs, i'm prepared to admit that) one last thing, i saw above that someone said "IF YA DON'T LIKE IT THEN STICK TO LISTENING TO MCFLY AND OTHER CRAP LIKE THAT !!!!!" hahaha, i don't see foo fighters as being any more credible than mcFly! some people really need to make an effort to look for music, rather than accepting what is handed to them via the radio and/or mtv!! oh well
Russell, Northampton, UK

Everyone to their own. I think the Foos rock... so there!
Davie Glasgow

something i noticed also.......why do all these people keep referring to the reviewer as "he" or "that guy"??? the name says "tanya Byrne" sounds female to me!!! just goes to show they obviously didn't read the review properly, which if they had done, would show that she didnt have anything against dave grohl and all her points were valid and backed up correctly!!! There was not one malicious word said about any of the FF members, so why all the negative feedback against the review?
Russell, Northampton, uk

Hardly the Colour and the shape now is it? Get back on the drugs Grohl...
Mark, London

The foo fighters are an excellent all round pop/rock band the album "in your honour" is a worthy follow up to "one by one" altough on the whole i would have 2 rate "there is nothing left to loose" as there best album 2 date.
Sean Dethck,Nottingham

Good album, my fave tracks are Best Of You and DOA.
Andre', Rushden

i agree with your reviewer that cold day in the sun sticks out on the acoustic album. It is by far the best on the second album. Taylor should sing more often but i also think that best of you was a good song to realese first as it makes you want to go out and by the album
Ainsley, Scotland

Shut up all u idiots, Dave Grohl fantastic drummer, singer and guitarist. Since Nirvana, who are unforgettably brilliant. Has proved himself to be a very tallented musician, im sure Kurdt will b smiling down on him!!!
Louise Cassie ,Inverness

its a good album... taylor hawkins does well in cold day in the sun and its nice to hear grohl playing the drums in that song as well. i like best of you, but the video jars the hell out of me for some reason. :/
ruth, dartford, uk

in your honour is a pretty good album, the standout song obviously being the lead single Best of You, but rather a letdown when compared to their previous efforts such as their self titled debut, one by one and the brilliantly awesome the colour and the shape (easily their best album!) while other songs such as Free Me, In Your Honour and Resolve are pretty decent they just do not compare to classics such as all my life, learn to fly, times like these, monkey wrench, my poor brain, big me and this is a call. overall i will rate In your honour 7/10.
jonathan beresford, london

You poor joyless little nits. Stick your heads back into your smarmly indie/alt cocoon and stop listening to things you deem beneath you.
Raul. Utah

the foos totally rock but this album definetely does not compare to their previous albums, notably the colour and the shape. im sorry to have to rate this a miserly 7/10
emma baker, london

The Foo's are awesome 'In Your Honour'is mint and why do pricks come on sayin green day rule...wot a set of asswipes!
bami,rochdale

What is this reviewer talking about, this album is quality every song is brilliant except one or two ok ones!!
Craig, Scotland

i think that "in your honour" is a terrific album, only let down by the single 'best of you'. for me that is the worst song on the album in what is otherwise a fantastic piece of music!its consistent, its typical, its catchy and its an album full of potential singles which i think makes it very easy listening.
tom in derby

Saw Razor on Joules Holland show and bought CD. It now sits (with pride) along side my Roadiohead nirvana and Eels CD's in the car. Absolutly top stuff. When you can do LO's for 3 or so mins without loosing the time I'll eat my hat.
Pete G, Sheffield

This is one of the best albume i've ever listened to. Amazing!!! truly beautiful!!! i just loved e-v-e-r-y song in it ! without no doubt , FOO - this is the best of you !!!!!!!!! XOXOXOX
ADI , Israel

Listening to the rock CD first. "In your Honour" and "Best of You", stand out. You lot are horrible to Dave Grohl who's just a decent, talented guy who's trying to make decent living making decent music - and he does. So the Foo's aren't Nirvana - we knew that, get over it or you'll miss-out on enjoying some really good music - Well done Foo's.
Stewart Hall, Somerset

lol, you bunch of morons, stop comparing them to nirvana...we dont call the libertines babyshambles....
Mat, Liverpool

Nirvana is dead, time to let go.FOO FIGHTERS RULE.This is how rock and acoustic used to be played,I should know,I'm fifty years old and finally I can listen to 'real' music.
victoria New Zealand

i thought this album was amazing, sure, maybe there are some songs that aren't as good as others, but the same is true of any artist, and personally, i love it, if you don't that's your opinion...friend of a friend rocked it for me
jen, portsmouth

IF youre a real fan of the Foo Fighters then youll like this album. I love all 5. The Foos are my sound. Some peoples expectations come up short because theyre waiting for the next everlong or my hero to come out. I hope another song doesnt come along to take the reign of my hero or everlong, think about it, those songs will never be the same if another one takes the crown. I respect the Foos for evolving with the new sound of today but still keeping their distinct sound as well. Oasis is a band that needs to learn that, and as far as you Metallica fans who commented on here, i cant take Metallica seriously because of the fact that they play Metal and theyre called Metallica. Are you kiddin me? I think im gonna make a band called Punk Rockica.
RYAN, NEW YORK

This is a fab album. There's some great hard-core rock here with the amazing vocals of Dave Grohl. I'd Rate it as an 8/10.
Laura, Walsall

Are you kiddin me... This album is the greatest foo fighters album ever... if you don't think so you probably haven't known foo fighters as long as i have..
Tarak Bombay

I think the foo fighter are cool, especilly when it comes to this album.
vanessa lynn vasquez, new york

When will people stop going on about Kurt/Nirvana. They were the past... move on. Yeah! he was talented and did a lot to bring rock back from the brink but he's more famous for his death than his life. The Foo Fighters are a great rock band now that are doing what they want to do and like, so if you want to listen then do but if not, don't bother. Do ask your self a question though.... With only one great album what would Nirvana sound like now?
Neil, Brighton

Steve, London. Yes your comments are valid but they are also boring. Music is there to be enjoyed by people whether they understand the lyrics or not. There are many people who like songs because of the way it is presented. I have all the Nirvana albums and i agree with you that Kurt was a genius in what he wrote, but you are still comparing him to Dave Grohl. Dave is a true talent in his own right, and for someone who can play both guitar, drum and write/sing songs aswell as he does, he deserves to be recognised as a true talent. IYH isnt there strongest album but it was never meant to be, the album was put out there to thank the fans and his family. Foo Fighters are truely brilliant whether you just want to rock out or whether you want to listen in depth like yourself.
Lewis, Bridgnorth

I saw the foo's last sunday at the NEC, and ive got to say, it was the MOST AWESOME live experience! I got there early, was right up front. You know what makes the foos concerts great? They play their best songs, the best they can with aweso presence, tho some of their stuff is pretty pants, its swamped by the rest! The foo's are legendary talent! and after almost 11 years are still beating out some of the best stuff in the world! Thumbs up to them, if u dont like go see them, if u still dont like well, go jump in a mosh pit!
Alex, Droitwich Spa

I think in your honour is brilliant and I am just one of those normal people who like to kick back and enjoy abit of good music! I went to see them live at Manchester MEN arena and they were absolutely amazing - I doubt that anyone could disagree. They are my favourite band ever and Dave is a pure genius with so much talent. In your honour is totally inspirational even if it isn't there best yet
huge foo fighters fan , Cheshire

Steve fom London, how pretentious are you!"THERE WOULD BE NO INDIE BANDS IF IT WERE NOT FOR KURT COBAIN" Yeah right, there was indie before and after Nirvana. KC was great, the Foo Fighters are great but for different reasons.
Dave, Wokingham

Alex, Droitwich....im well jealous, i was there to but i was in the stands (to be honest i had an awesome view) but i so wanted to be on the floor rocking out. They were absolutely awesome, Dave puts all his energy into every song and makes it a overwhelming experience
Lewis, Bridgnorth

I think IYH indeed does not live up to the level Dave made believe. Nevertheless this is an amazing album (both cd's). The more I listen to it the more I appreciate it. It's definitely as he (Dave) put it a more "mature" album. Great addition to the collection. Thank you FF. PS: for you going on about Nirvana and KK, I think some of you just feel cheated and are angry at KK himself for being (in your eyes) selffish for taking his own life and robbing the world from what could have been .......what could have been.
Javier, Holland

This reviewer is completely off the mark. The album, I You Honour, is the Foo Fighter's best piece of work since There Is Nothing Left to Loose. The band got a bit lost with the album One By One, but their new work shows that they are back on track... this album is truely great (botht the harder rock and acoustic cd's) and shows the great talen that this group has, something rare today.
Andy, Canada

I wish people could separate Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters from his time with Nirvana. You can't compare the two. I love the Foo's and this album is a real grower, especially the accoustic disc. I like some of Nirvana as well but feel they are held in a loftier perch than they deserve. I mean, it was Neil Young who invented Grunge not Nirvana.
Rob, Eastbourne

i believe that music speaks to each individual in a different way; how else could some people worship hiphop and others worship techno and others worship grunge? all genres have their purposes, whether it be to sing along to, to bob your head to... whatever. i don't know why, but i love the foo fighters... maybe it's because i can mindlessly headbang to their awesome drumbeats, or maybe it's because their melodies are sweet and reach me emotionally. (also i think dave is really cool!) all i know for sure is that i've become attached, and there's no turning back. it doesn't matter what band is more intelligent in their songwriting techniques, all that matters is the music, and whether or not it reaches you on a personal level. though i don't understand WHY people who have NO interest in foo fighters come searching for places to vent. you don't see me going to any nickelback reviews, screaming "their chord progressions aren't original! foo fighters are better!" though that is my personal opinion, first off, it would be a waste of my time, and second off, it would only result in band wars amongst people who have nothing better to do. life is for enjoying, and so is music. let's just leave it at that.
Chad, Utah

The new foos album is awesome, songs like 'no way back' match their classic songs. They are amazing performers too, and dave grohl is a legend, he was and will always have more talent then kurt kobain. nirvana were dull and grohl opened his eyes and brought out the foos which i for one am thankful for!
Shefta, Bradford

Hi, has anyone got any photos of the concert at the NEC on December 11th 2005, I was there but had no camera, I was really near the stage on the left teir and the show blew me away, Foo fighters are one the best bands around, Brilliant!
Jack, Essex

I think this is an awesome album, and im only 14. This just shows the age band the Foo fighters reach out to, EVERY1!
Brittni, Cornwall.

Foo Fighters are great. But this just dosen't live up to the expectation after the first 4 albums (which are classics). It's a good album and has great moments (DOA, Resolve, Cold Day In The Sun). But the first 4 albums are a step ahead
Niall, London

I have no idea what album the reveiwer was listening to but this CD is one of the best CD's I have ever heard! I have no idea how it stands up to their other albums as I've never heard them, but this is a sublime album. Both CD's deserve a listen.
Ryan, Leeds

I have liked the Foo fighters since the first time I heard "big me". Tis a good album, but your getting all these chavs and wannabes who hear "Best of you" and they think that in your honour is a debut album.
Rory - London

The Foo fighters just rule, I saw them twice (in Werchter 2005, and at the AB in Brussels in februari 2006), and the were awsome twice!! Life are they still one of the best bands around...
Jelle, Oostmal, Belgium

In my opinion, the best Foos album since 'the colour and the shape'. 'DOA', 'No Way Back' and 'End Over End' stand out from disc one, and 'Razor' is far beyod what I ever thought the Foos could acheive acoustically. The double disc was a big gamble to take, but i think it's worked and only improved the diversity of their music.
Phil, Newcastle

Jesus H Christ, some people really do deserve to have their eardrums surgically removed. The number of "omfg teh revewier suxx!!11one!elevn" comments on here is beyond belief. Pray tell us, why does the review suck? Because you don't happen to agree with it? Get the f*** over yourself. Posting comments like that only proves that you are the one who sucks, and that you don't deserve the means to appreciate the miracle that is music. Now, down to business. What can I say, by and large this album rocks (in my opinion, f******! See, it doesn't hurt). In the wake of One By One, which despite some superb anthemic tracks was a minor disappointment overall, the Foos seem to have recaptured the energy of The Colour And The Shape, and that can only be a good thing. It's not quite back to the glory days yet, but they are once again making music with a passion rather than going through the motions, and I have high hopes for the future of this band.
Chris, Herts

I can't understand why some people don't like this album. What is there not to like about it. It's one great rock song after another for one CD, then a relaxing tuneful masterpiece on the next CD. Terrific. What more could anyone possibly ask for in an album?
Dave, Cardiff

I really respect the reviews from Chad (Utah) and Steven (london). Kurt Cobain, of what i know, was a brilliant musician and songwriter. You can feel his emotions in his songs. Its sad he died. Nirvana were great, but they are no longer present. Foo fighters just happen to be linked with them only because Grohl was in both bands. I wish people would stop slagging off other bands. FF is just the next step of Grohl's career. They are brilliant too. I am only 18 and finding my own music, and rock/metal (and reggae) are my favourites. Like Chad said, music is an expression of sound, genres are there to please every1. Not all people like rock. Stop insulting KC saying he was 'overrated' and only got real fame from dying, thats just harsh and disrespectful whether you like him or not.
Alex, Bradford
