WELCOME
Welcome to the
Mormon Handcart Companies website. We invite you to read the stories
compiled by the Riverton Wyoming Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsand learn more about the pioneers, their rescuers
and most importantly their faith in a loving Father in Heaven. These
are their stories and the stories of their rescuers, both past and
present.
"Brethren and sisters you have a great inheritance. We have
a tremendous responsibility to live up to it. God bless us to be
faithful, to be true to that which meant so much to those who died
here and their associates who died along this long and wearisome
trail." - President Gordon B. Hinckley, Rock Creek Hollow
Dedication, July 23, 1994.
" We are learning in the Church, that there is a craving
among our people for pioneer history. I think maybe we have neglected
that phase just a little bit in years past. Now there is that overwhelming
desire to learn more of those who gave everything they had for the
promulgation of the gospel and that dream of coming to Zion. No
one can record here on earth all the sacrifices. There are too many."
- President Thomas S. Monson, Riverton Stake Meeting, June 15, 1997
"In the heroic effort of the handcart pioneers, we learn
a great truth. All must pass through a refiner's fire, and the insignificant
and unimportant in our lives can melt away like dross and make our
faith bright, intact, and strong. There seems to be a full measure
of anguish, sorrow, and often heartbreak for everyone, including
those who earnestly seek to do right and be faithful. Yet this is
part of the purging to become acquainted with God." - President
James E. Faust, General Conference, April 6, 1997
