Kerrey for Lieberman
bob kerrey.jpg
While most of Joe Lieberman's Democratic colleagues flock to his opponent, at least one prominent former senator is rallying to him.

Word from the campaign is that Bob Kerrey has offered to stump for Lieberman in the fall, which should, if nothing else, allow Lieberman to paint his coalition of political supporters as Republicans -- whose professions of admiration Lieberman can't seem to get away from -- and "independent-minded" Democrats.

There goes any chance of my making a contribution to the New School of which I am a proud alumnus. I always previously admired Bob Kerrey. What is he thinking? Has he heard what Lieberman has said since he lost the election (more or less calling anyone that thinks he is wrong with a friend of terrorists)?

Bob's a big fan of phasing out Social Security. I'm a big fan of eliminating this kind of New Democrat from the party. A purge? No. Intellectual debate, and making the New Dems realize that no matter how nicely the Republicans talk about them, they regard them as useful fools, and real Dems don't like them very much. Is that partisan? Eek.

Based on what Bob Kerry's students did to John McCain at the New School's last graduation exercises, I expect his moonbeam students will overrun and encamp in his offices to protest when he goes to Connecticut to help his friend Joe.

As a recent New School grad, it's easy to see why Kerrey and Lieberman get along. Neither have any respect for the opinions and wishes of their constituencies. The New School students and faculty for Kerrey, and the CT Dems for Lieberman.

Kerrey--who admits to war crimes in Vietnam, as a Navy Seal , I think--invited John Mc Cain as graduation speaker last year, even though he was already scheduled to speak at Falwell's Liberty Univ. and even though McCain's pro-war stance and Liebermanesque devotion to George Bush contravenes everything the New School has stood for since its days as a refuge for scholars fleeing totalitarianism under the nazis.
At the graduation, an exceptionally brave young woman, scheduled as a speaker, changed her speech to attack McCain's probity and the war itself.

If Kerrey stumps for Lieberman, I hope the school's faculty and students bring Lamont to campus as a speaker and hold many Lamont rallies. And organize for Jonathan Tasini, against Hillary Clinton.
