Like the Nissan 350Z, the G35 is a newcomer to the market, as well as to the 10Best list. The Z parallel isn't as far-fetched as it might appear. These new contenders in the entry luxury market are built on the rear-drive chassis that also supports the Z-car, with the same transmissions and the same smooth 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine. With 260-to-280 horsepower, it's not quite as robust as the Z version, and the cars it propels are bigger and heavier. But for all that, two doors or four, the G35s are brisk performers — quick on their feet, smooth, mannerly, and well-equipped.
We're impressed with the four-door's roomy interior and high-quality appointments, but we think it's the two-door that's really going to ring some chimes out there. The smoother, sculpted lines provide a sophisticated contrast to the buffed muscularity of the 350Z, interior appointments are richer than the Z-car's, and of course there's the significant advantage of a usable rear seat. |
