Negotiating for endangered species

Efforts in the policy arena

WWF uses international instruments and institutions to catalyse species conservation action and to provide solutions to key threats.

As an example, we attend, amongst others, CITES (The Convention on Trade of Endangered Species) and the IWC (International Whaling Commission) meetings.

Conference of Parties (CoP) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

WWF has actively participated in all previous CITES CoPs, and brings to the table both its policy expertise, and its 40 years of field expertise in more than 60 countries.

Annual Meetings of the International Whaling Commission (IWC)

WWF works across a broad range of international fora, including the IWC, to address and reduce threats to cetaceans. The organization urges governments to make the IWC an effective international forum for the conservation of all cetaceans.
