Welcome to study BIOINFORMATICS at the University of Turku
The University of Turku in cooperation with the University of Tampere
will start a two-year Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics in September 2006.
The Finnish Ministry of Education has confirmed this new programme 15th of Dec 2005.
The programme offers interdisciplinary education in bioinformatics.
Therefore applicants can be from both biological and computational fields.
Our mission is to educate "bilingual" experts, in terms of combined knowledge of information technology and biosciences.
Educational cooperation between two Finnish Universities
The programme covers different aspects of bioinformatics and is managed by two universities in Finland:
the University of Tampere
(Institute of Medical Technology - Bioinformatics Group)
and the University of Turku
(Department of Information Technology).
As an equal cooperation of these participating units, the programme offers fundamental knowledge of :
- Algorithms in Bioinformatics
- Biological Databases and Tools
- Information Retrieval and Extraction
- Data Analysis and Machine Learning Methods
- Sequence Analysis, Protein stuctures, Phylogenetics
- Proteomics, Functional Genomics, Systems Biology
The first application round 2006 expires 1st of March 2006.
