Mayor’s Creative Economy Council Ends

The official role of the Mayor’s Creative Economy Council ended upon presentation of the final report to City Council. However, the work has just begun. The City will present an implementation plan at the April 25th City Council meeting. The City alone will not be able to make all of the changes or fulfill all of the recommendations in the report. Luckily for us, there are many organizations who are willing to champion one ore more of the recommendations.

What is your organization willing to do?

Stay tuned for a full list.

Final Report

“Making the Grass Greener”
Recommendations to Retain, Attract, Develop, and Support Knowledge Workers

Download Entire Report (3.3mb)

Download Executive Summary Only (1012kb)

Many thanks to everyone who posted recommendations and attended the CEC summit.

This report is just the beginning. It is intended to start a community dialogue. Our recommendations are examples of actions that should be taken. However, creativity is never finished, nor is there only one answer. There are additional ideas and actions that could be included in this report. Our hope is that we’ve provided some of the basics.

Positive transformation is possible. First we must believe, then we must act.

The Creative Economy Council is finalizing their final report and expect to release it after the first of the year. The goal of the report is to help the city to retain, attract, support, and develop creative professionals/knowledge workers. The recommendations fall into four main areas:

1. Mindset: Disconnect between the perception of Fresno and the reality
2. Smart growth: Focus on excellence in design, parks, and environmentally-friendly technology
3. Urban Fresno: Focus on a vibrant and livable downtown, with improved transportation, districts, and historic preservation.
4. Quality of Place: Take seriously the role of the arts in supporting economic growth, foster third spaces, and work to eliminate the digital divide.
