Jeux Sans Frontières (Games without Frontiers, JSF) is one of the oldest international coproductions in the history of television. Since its creation in 1965, European viewers have shared their emotions in the playful confrontations between countries, similar to that other very successful format, the Eurovision Song Contest. Generations in Europe have grown up with this mythical international game show.
Now, for 2007, the EBU, in collaboration with MISTRAL PRODUCTION and UPSIDE TELEVISION, invites all member broadcasters to participate in the revival of Jeux Sans Frontières.
Jeux Sans Frontières 2007 is based on nine episodes (to cover the nine weeks of summer): eight pre-selections plus the final. In each of the episodes there is a different city team representing the participating country.
All teams play five games against each other to win as many points as possible. They each have one Joker, to gain double points for a game.
Another element of each episode is the Fil Rouge (Red thread), which is played individually per country; these points are added to the score before the End Game – the final tournament, in which all participating countries still have a chance to win.
The principle of Jeux Sans Frontières 2007 is that each participating broadcaster personalizes its programme specifically for its audience, through editing (duration), usage of a best-of montage, and own footage using an EFP (electronic field production) crew.
