GALLERY BIO

In 2003, six working artists founded Crawl Space to further the creation and exhibition of innovative artwork by emerging artists and to incite community interest in the visual arts. The cooperative is now co-directed and entirely funded by two of the original founders and a circulating membership of contributing artists.

Crawl Space has built a unique system of ownership where member and guest artists plan, fund, and staff their own exhibitions and those of their peers. Crawl Space offers an alternative to sales-driven art venues by encouraging large-scale installation and interactive work using experimental processes and materials. Our emerging arts community continues to develop as we engage community members in the new art-making processes of our up-and-coming exhibiting artists. The interchange between our network of emerging artists and our community of volunteers and art viewers promotes the creation of and accessibility to diverse and influential new art.

MISSION STATEMENT

Crawl Space is a nonprofit artist-run exhibition space dedicated to cultivating influential and inventive artwork by emerging artists and inciting community interest in the visual arts.

We believe that support and proliferation of this vital emerging arts community will not only enrich our local culture but will create a group of talented artists whose dedication to the emerging arts will influence every community to which their careers lead them.
