On
April 4, 2004, the Purdue Symphony Orchestra will take the stage at
the Hilbert Circle Theater in Indianapolis for a concert with renowned
tenor, Daniel Rodriguez.
The concert will begin at
3 p.m. with general admission seating at $10 per person. This concert
is presented by Purdue University Bands, the Purdue Office of Advancement
and the Purdue Alumni Association with sponsorship by numerous Indianapolis
businesses and friends.
Singing the praises of Daniel
Rodriguez, world famous opera star Plácido Domingo says, “Life
can be wonderful, especially when it bestows a natural talent on an
individual and also endows that person with the perseverance to see
a dream come true. Daniel Rodriguez was born with a beautiful tenor
voice. His success is a source of great joy to me because he truly deserves
it.”
These words hint at the ineffable
quality that has turned this native New Yorker and unheralded singing
policeman into “America's beloved tenor.” His deeply-felt
a cappella performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and
“God Bless America” inspired the whole country in the wake
of September 11.
Rodriguez’ rise to
stardom has been a meteoric one. As a New York Police Department officer,
he caught the attention of people who heard his voice at department
functions and ceremonial events. Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani introduced
him to the general public at a New York Yankees game where he sang a
compelling rendition of the National Anthem. History intervened on September
11, 2001, and the tenor's heartfelt singing became a source of solace
and comfort.
In the subsequent months,
Rodriguez appeared on a variety of television shows including “The
Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Today Show,” “LIVE
with Regis & Kelly,”, “Good Morning America,”
ABC TV's “New Year's Eve 2002,” hosted by Peter Jennings,
CNN's “Larry King Live” and the “Late Show with David
Letterman,” as well as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rockefeller Plaza, the Opening Ceremonies
of the 2002 Winter Olympics and for President Bush at the White House.
His recent CD “From
My Heart” is produced by Grammy winner Tom Scott and was released
on Manhattan Records. Daniel Rodriguez is looking to a bright future.
“This is an amazing turn of events for me,” he says. “It's
a dream come true. Singing is my passion.”
