There's nothing like receiving a Christmas card in the post to make you feel special – and even more so when it's one made by a friend featuring their art. It just adds so much more to the meaning of the card than an e-card which you have to print out before you can put it up (though there's no denying the convenience of these, particularly if there isn't time to post something), or a mass-produced card.

So this month's project is to help this year's Christmas a particularly special and personal one – and it's deliberately been set in November rather than December to ensure that you can't use a lack of time as an excuse not to make at least one card!

The first thing to decide is what paper or board you're going to make your use for your cards. If it's a thickish card, it need be folded in half only, but if it's a sheet of paper it's probably best to fold it twice to ensure it stands up (see the diagram in the Create Your Own Christmas Cards instructions).

Next you need to decide what you're going to put on the front – have you the time to paint individual cards, are you going to scan in one of your paintings and print the cards, or what about using a stencil?

Don't forget that you'll need envelopes for your cards, so either ensure that your card will fit into a standard envelope that you can buy or make your own.
