The First Ad For Batman #1
From Detective Comics 39, May, 1940

One month after the first appearance of Robin, the Boy Wonder in Detective Comics 38 (April, 1940), the fans of Batman and Robin must have been delighted to find the following ad in Detective Comics 39 (May, 1940) announcing that in just three weeks time, Batman and Robin would be getting an entire comic book all to themselves!  The publication of Batman #1, first as a quarterly,  then as a bi-monthly, and finally as a monthly, started a successful run that continues to this day (almost 600 issues later!)  I wish I could have been at the local newsstand on April 25, 1940 to pick up my copy.
