BRISTOL, Conn. -- Texas redshirt freshman QB Colt McCoy lit up the scoreboard with a record setting performance in the Longhorns' 63-31 victory on Saturday, October 14 and fans have rewarded him for his outstanding play. McCoy has been selected as the week seven Cingular All-America Player of the Week, the only major college football award chosen exclusively by college football fans.

McCoy completed 21 of 32 passes for 275 yards, including a school-record six touchdowns, last Saturday against Baylor. McCoy, who helped Texas rally from a 10-0 first quarter deficit, broke the school record of five touchdown passes previously held by James Brown (1994) and Chris Simms (2001) while setting personal highs in passing yards and completions.

For the season, McCoy has completed 101-of-147 passes (68.7%) for 1,229 yards and 18 TDs (t-No. 1 on UT's single-season freshman list), while throwing just three INTs. His passing efficiency rating of 175.3 ranks fifth nationally.

McCoy received 39% of the votes to win the fan balloting over West Virginia quarterback Pat White (23%), Oklahoma State wide receiver Adarius Bowman (20%) and Indiana quarterback Kellen Lewis (18%). Each player was nominated for this week's award by a panel of ESPN college football analysts based on their outstanding performances last weekend.

A first-time winner of the Cingular All America Player of the Week, McCoy joins Rutgers running back Ray Rice, Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham, Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson and Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge on this year's winner's list.

In December, four finalists for the Cingular All-America Player of the Year award will be announced during a one-hour special on ABC Sports. Fans will then get a chance to say who the best player in the nation is by voting for the Cingular All-America Player of the Year up until the Bowl Championship Series. The selection process will culminate during the BCS National Championship game on FOX when the Cingular All-America Player of the Year will be presented.

Last year, Texas quarterback Vince Young was crowned as the Cingular All-America Player of the Year, beating out Southern California teammates Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn. Young was the second Longhorn to claim the award, after running back Cedric Benson won the inaugural honor in 2004.
