Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trials
Users expect to use multimedia services with the same quality, access and reliability as they enjoy for voice. A key challenge in enabling this is 'interworking' - ensuring an efficient, high-quality and cost-effective delivery of IP services across international boundaries and between different operators and service providers.

Dotmobi

Dotmobi is unique – It is the first 'top level domain' dedicated to delivering the Internet to mobile devices. Dotmobi directs mobile users to made-for-mobile Internet content and data services by using the ".mobi" suffix at the end of a web address instead of ".com" or ".org". The ".mobi" suffix is designed to act as a clear signal to users that the website has been specifically designed to be accessed and browsed via the typically smaller screen display of a mobile device. As mobile device penetration continues to outpace Personal Computers by 2:1, the ability to view the Internet on a mobile device will be key. Dotmobi is supported by a cross section of the most visible mobile industry players and application providers, and will become the default address for content and data services that are tailor made for mobile devices.

Personal Instant Messaging

Melding the best of the internet and mobile worlds for an enhanced user experience
Technology advances are allowing mobile operators to bring the immediacy and convenience of mobility to popular Internet services, such as email and instant messaging. Thanks to advances in technology and leveraging the proven strengths of 3GSM's global interoperability and trusted environment, users experiences will be taken to a new level of service delivery, quality and enjoyment.

Personal IM is the first of a range of these services. It is easy to use, enabling text conversations in real time with business colleagues or friends anywhere in the world who are chatting from mobile devices or from their internet connected terminals. You'll know when people are 'on line' and with a guaranteed grade of service delivery, message receipt can be assured. And, the initiating party pays for the message, so there are no surprises when the monthly bill arrives.

A number of major global operators will soon have Personal IM services available for their customers.

Bridging the Digital Divide

The GSMA believe that the promotion of open, competitive market conditions is fundamental to extending the benefits of mobile communications to all, from the most developed Western European markets to remote areas in developing countries. Mobile has a critical role to play in improving health, wealth, education and social mobility.

To ensure that the benefits of mobile communications are understood and available to everyone who needs them, the GSM Association has developed an integrated programme aimed at better identifying the value of mobile communications.

As part of its wider 'Bridging the Digital Divide' initiative, the GSMA is working to tackle the cost barriers to ownership and address the economic and social benefits related to mobile. Its work in this area falls into two categories: The Total Cost of Ownership and Economic & Social Benefits.
