General Chuck Yeager Honored

Story by Deanne Stein Email | Bio

He was the first pilot to break the sound barrier and his roots are here in West Virginia. Gen. Chuck Yeager returned to Lincoln County on Thursday.

The state honored him with a new marker along Corridor G. Governor Joe Manchin also renamed the road to Hamlin as Yeager Highway.

After the ceremony, Yeager helped dedicate the new Lincoln County High School. He told students that he is living proof that you can achieve success.

After the dedication, the state presented a $30,000 dollar check to the school's athletic department.
