Formation

Forming policy on TenTonHammer.com is an ongoing process. Your feeback is encouraged. If you would like to send ideas and/or suggestions regarding Site Policies, email us by clicking "Help - Contact Administrator".

Chess Game Policies

Members of World Chess Network are expected to participate and play chess on their own account, without outside assistance. You are not permitted to use computers or another person to assist you in your games. Your chess rating is a statement of your effort, learning, and performance on World Chess Network. Compromising integrity over your chess rating is not accepted by other members. Members who choose to break this policy may be denied access to the network.

If you start a game, you have an obligation to finish it. The "Save Game" option is available should two players agree to adjourn a game for completion later. Please note that it is not obligatory to accept a "Save Game" request. This is also true of "Draw" and "Takeback".

It is poor protocol in chess to offer several draw or takeback requests. In the case of a draw, proper etiquette is to offer, and if your opponent does not accept, wait for them to offer one back. Takebacks are personal preference. Some members never request or accept a takeback, while others consider it reasonable to do so for an obvious "mouse error". Please respect your opponent's right to either accept or decline any request.

It is not allowed to play bogus games in order to lose or win rating points (sandbagging).

Disconnections

Occasionally a member gets disconnected involuntarily from the network. If you should get disconnected, you have three minutes to reconnect. During these three minutes, your clock will not run. Once you reconnect, your game will resume immediately. If you do not reconnect within three minutes, you will forfeit the game.

Should you resume your game within three minutes and proceed to get disconnected a second time, your clock will continue to run. The game will either be resumed when you return or you will run out of time.

If your opponent gets disconnected, please wait for three minutes to elapse or for your game to resume.

Chat Room

Speaking with other members in the Chat Room or Audience is a privilege which the vast majority of members appreciate and respect. Please use courtesy and politeness when using these forums. Do not make inappropriate remarks in the Chat Room or Audience. Members who misuse this privilege may be denied Chat Room and/or Audience usage.

Site Policies

Welcome to World Chess Network! Our goal is to provide you with a unique chess environment. Learning, friendly competition, and fun is top priority for our members. Understanding our Policies and Guidelines is an important step for you to maximize your participation and enjoyment.

Account Information

Information you provide upon registration is used to create your account, and to send you details on important news regarding World Chess Network. You are not required or encouraged to provide additional information to any member. Your right to privacy is important to us.

Privacy also refers to the security of your account. Make sure the password you have selected is not easily guessed, and do not give your password to another member.

Member Support

A world class chess network requires world class support. We make this available to you. Reach Member Support by clicking "Help - Contact Administrator" or by emailing directly to administration@worldchessnetwork.com. Our customer service team will answer your inquiry as soon as possible.

Please help by ensuring that your question has not already been answered on one of our online resources. Click "Help - Quick Tips" for fast information on common World Chess Network features. Click "Help - Frequently Asked Questions" for a listing of the most often asked queries.

If you find an Administrator on the network, feel free to direct your question to them. If you notice that they are "Not Available", however, direct your question to "Help - Contact Administrator".

Communication

We expect you to act politely to all members. Communicating respectfully leads to a more enjoyable environment for everyone.

If you wish to receive notification of another member?s arrival and departure on World Chess Network, add them to your Friends List. Click "Features - Friends List". Alternatively, you can right-click their name in the text window, and click "Friend".

If you wish to avoid communication with another member, click "Features - Avoid List". Alternatively, you can right-click their name in the text window, and click "Avoid". This accomplishes two things. First, the avoided member will be unable to communicate with you, or challenge you. Second, it sends us a message that the member may not be adhering to our Policies and Guidelines. If that member is placed on too many Avoid Lists, we will notice and respond accordingly.

The best response to an impolite member is to ignore them, and immediately add them to your Avoid List. Members who engage in childish behaviour are often seeking attention.

Player Name

We encourage you to use your real name as your Player Name. Real names lead to a better understanding of each other, and emphasize the importance of politeness and courtesy.

If you choose not to use your real name, we recommend a realistic name. Offensive names, or any name which does not add to the positive environment of World Chess Network, will not be permitted.

If you would like to change your player name, send your request to "Help - Contact Administrator". There is a $10 fee for each name change.
