In Congress |
The House of Representatives is now under pro-choice leadership – however, Congress is still dominated by an anti-choice majority.
- Congress has voted 54 times on choice-related issues since President Bush took office in 2001. Pro-choice Americans have lost all but 10 of those votes.
- Since 2003, Congress has acted on five separate anti-choice free-standing bills. Three – the Federal Abortion Ban, the "Unborn Victims of Violence Act," and the Federal Refusal Clause - were signed into law by President Bush. (Note: the unconstitutional Federal Abortion Ban is currently being challenged in court and is not enforceable.)
- While under anti-choice leadership, the 109th Congress has refused to even allow votes on commonsense bills that would reduce the need for abortion.
