The Grass & Eclectic Co. delivers dynamic powered bluegrass and acoustic
music. Featuring an eclectic blend of traditional and contemporary bluegrass
combined with acoustic versions of favorite songs in rock, pop, country and
gospel. It's Good Time Music!
The group is
made up of musicians from the lake country area including singer and Mandolin
player, Bob McDermott. Bob actually started out playing drums in the late 70s
touring the Midwest with a country act,
The
Armadillo
Desert Band. The past 10
years he has lead the local Rock & Roll band, Legacy. All the while he has
also played mandolin with various types of acts including
Bluegrass, Country and Rockabilly, and most
recently with the Acoustic Duo, Dan & Bob. "The mandolin gives me a chance to
explore other musical boundaries, including playing leads,", indicates Bob,
"And the backbeat chop, is very much like the snare drum, laying down a solid
rhythm."
Playing guitar
in the band is Bob"s 17-year-old son, Steve McDermott.
Steve also
started on drums but picked up the guitar 3 years ago. He says the drums
helped learn timing, but finds the guitar more challenging. Although
relatively new to the professional music scene, he is already well known in
the local bluegrass circles as part of the next generation of bluegrass
musicians, keeping the traditional acoustic music alive. Along with some of
the traditional music, Steve enjoys the jam bands, starting with the Grateful
Dead to the String Cheese Incident. He has strong rhythm and very creative
lead playing.
The most
traditional member of the Grass & Eclectic Co. is the banjo player, John
Bashaw. He's just come off a 5-year stint with the
Milwaukee based Bluegrass band, Pickin Up
Speed, playing throughout the upper
Midwest. John says he discovered the banjo
while attending
Cornell
University and was
hooked.
He
has
been
playing in and out of bands ever since. With a lonesome sounding voice,
John sings
lead and adds strong harmony. A veteran singer, he has performed in NY,
England and a production
of Messiah.
Always the
bluegrass advocate, John has organized the Annual East Troy
Bluegrass Festival and several local jams.
Laying down
the bass foundation in the band is Jeff Couillard, the Stringmeister. Fellow
musicians say, "If it has strings, Jeff can play it. Very active in the church
music ministry, Jeff has done everything from running sound to currently
playing in the worship band at the
Lake
Country
Bible
Church. His love for
music began in the junior high when he first played the upright bass in the
school orchestra, and now picking up the upright again, has brought him full
circle.
Available for Church Festivals,
Community Events and anywhere acoustic music is enjoyed, The Grass & Eclectic
Co. is an eclectic mix of music and musicians, resulting an a blend of
bluegrass favorites and popular songs to appeal to all ages. Energy Star
approved for a family friendly, professional performance.
