Somalia: Top Islamist officials leave for unknown destination Thu. December 21, 2006 12:17 pm.

Sheik Aweys | (SomaliNet) The leader of Shura Council of Islamic Courts Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys and chief of security of Islamic Courts Sheik Yusuf Mohamed Inda Ade accompanied by Islamist members have on Thursday flown from Mogadishu main airport in Somalia capital.
Before leaving the country, the two top Islamist leaders declined to comment on their destination.
Sheik Aweys, the key founder of Islamic Courts movement in Somalia, said briefly they were heading to a place and they will come back.
But unconfirmed reports say the ICU officials went to Saudi Arabia to perform the pilgrimage.
It was for the first time that Sheik Aweys hid where he was heading to.
Islamic Courts Union which controls much of southern and central Somalia is engaging heavy clashes with the government troops backed by Ethiopian forces.
